Hi everyone
Apart from model boats and other plastic modelling interests, I'm quite a follower of the Doctor Who series, classic and new stories- I know I'm strange but some of us have got be weirder than other! %%
For those who are not aware of the show's 50th Anniversary is due in November- its now the longest running TV series (sci-fi and drama) of all time!
Anyway, if you've not seen the trailer for the special episode due to air on November 23rd exactly 50 years after the first episode was shown, please see the link below.
It is now one of the biggest hits on Youtube and as far as I know its only been seen on the BBC once or twice.
The trailer is, according to some, on par with the trailers for Star Wars and the alike!

Not Dr Who, though I want to see it, but yesterday I saw Captain Philips. That's excellent. I've always wondered about the inside of one . If I those drop-pod type life boasts. Now I know.

Watched almost every one right from the start. I still think Hartnell was the best, the definitive absent minded professor.
PS: Nick. Lovely sailing day at Black Park today, where a colleague was telling me about a certain big model boat show he'd just visited, and was waxing lyrical about a gunboat he had seen there.
HMS Gnat. The description was too unique to be any other than yours O0 :-))

Understand that the special 50 year edition to be shown on TV towards end of year is to be shown simultaneously in 3D in cinemas all over the country.
Might be worth the effort of getting to the flix!

Yes that was me, gunboat almost complete with ships crew and LRDG soldiers waiting to be dropped off.
I too, have watched almost every Doctor Who that has been released on DVD and decided to start from the very beginning with William Hartnell, and the from what I have heard on the grape vine that the latest Doctor will be going back to the original Totters scrap yard featured in the first episode . I must admit that I prefer the earlier doctors for the story lines, I listen to audio books of Tom Baker, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann, and Tom Bakers voice on some of the latest audio books echoing ...
It's Saturday night in 1974...all over again...
Just gives me goosebumps when I hear him.
For completely dark story lines which make some of the new Doctor Who stories look quite tame, listen to the Sylvester McCoy adventures, the most frightening was a 'baddie' called Nobody No-one who could control the power of language, the theory being ' how many times a day does someone say' Nobody has the power to... Or No-one can do.... And since his name was Nobody No-one he could do those actions! A very complex story but still very scary imagining what that person could do...
Hope the wait is worth it! :-))

Picked up my tickets and 3d glasses yesterday :-)) very excited about seeing David Tennant back in action.

I look forward to seeing the latest updates on HMS Gnat, quite a while since I saw her at Wicksteed.
I usually get to 4 shows a year, but Warwick is a bit far for me.
Sad so many of the early Dr Who episodes were taped over or lost, they were a triumph of what could be achieved on a very low budget without all the latest special effects. Kudos to Delia Derbyshire and the BBC Radiophonics Workshop for the original theme music, which I have on 45rpm vinyl.
IMO some of the best Dr Who adversaries were the Weeping Angels, very scary yet low tech.

For all you Doctor Fans out there, I know there are a few don't hide! %) , the latest trailer for series 8 is being aired very quietly on the BBC and YouTube building up to the new doctors first episode. Rumours are wild but there will be a second companion joining the Tardis and big time actors like Charles Dance and Keeley Hawes might be starring in some episodes as bad guys!
Anyway, not a very long trailer, 16secs long, tempting us Whovians with a two month wait for the start of series 8!

Agree with you fully, compared to the 50th anniversary trailer it's a bit of a disappointment but I presume this is a teaser, last time they did this though they got into trouble for tempting youngsters with something that wasn't due to be aired for several months. Hope they do better with the next one!

The proper BBC trailer has been properly released and I can see why BBC America got a telling off for almost spoiling the series, it looks fantastic. For those not in the know the program has received a reboot very similar to the new Star Trek films- better effects but a much deeper and creepier scripted story lines. This isn't just for kids anymore, the plots will be much darker and sinister, Capaldi's doctor isn't a 'hero' anymore but much closer to an 'anti-hero' reflecting closer to Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy gothic stories. The BBC has almost admitted that some won't like the new doctor initially because of the vast differences between Capaldi and the last three actors but he does look every part the doctor in the trailer.

P.S. Oh and by the way, I haven't read the leaked scripts and don't want to, I much prefer to watch and find out each week! ;)
