I have twin prop shafts in a glass fifer hull one makes more noise than the other when running at all speeds .I have checked for shaft straightness and alignment
-
Try greasing the prop shafts.

Just a little grease to start with.
If you don't have grease to hand, use any machine oil, 3-in-1, car engine oil, olive cooking!
-
Almost certainly the universal joint, they are notorious if misaligned or sometimes poor manufacture. Try a silicon tube over spline instead of centre section if it is a Huco type for non-alignment error. Plus all of the above ,grease, oil etc.
-
Sorry should have said tried oil and then grease after cleaning off the oil .The universal joint looks ok but will swap them over to check
-
I think you implied this but just swap the universal joints between the two shafts and see whether the noise goes with the joint or stays with the shaft.
-
ok2 The fact that you have a glass fibre hull will magnify the sound 10 times, even the slightest misalignment will sound worse than what it is,try lining the hull with polystyrene this will kill all shaft and motor noise and help with floatation,Ray. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

Is noisy in water as well as out?
-
Also check the brass part of the coupling on occasion I have had some out of center.
Thus causing vibration.

I quite agree with ARROW. The "universal" is the biggest noise maker on most model boat drive systems. Check out this thread for more insight into the problem: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,33847.0.html (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,33847.0.html)
Also take a look here for some other suggestions: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,42205.msg427025.html#msg427025 (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,42205.msg427025.html#msg427025)

If they are universals with just the one bendy element, be aware that they are not very universal, any misalignment will produce noise. The suggestion was made earlier that a length of silicone rubber tube be used instead. It should help eliminate at least one problem. There is nothing in the rule book that says that any problem has just the one source, though.
