Title: Bonding etched brass to styrene
Post by: malcf on January 19, 2014, 09:02:08 pm
I have just bought some etched brass outer window frames for my HMS Dragon type 45 build and i am pondering on what to use for fixing it, these frames are only about 1.5 mm wide and about 20 x 12mm rectangles with radius corners 0.8 thick, they need to be fixed in place before the lexan windows are fitted on the inside of the styrene sheet ,the frames internal size is the same as the openings in the styrene bridge will post some pics tomorrow when i have charged up the camera  >>:-(

I would use a good cyano.

I'd use a gel cyanoacrylate. I've used it for PE on scale models. The gel gives you a little bit of leeway to position it a little rather than the instant grab of superglue. Krazy Glue is one brand name. Most online model retailers have it and you will find it on "evilbay".

Cyano works great Just roughen the plastic slightly before application to provide some tooth for the cyano to grab too.

You can make your own applicator you know, no matter what the Cyano comes in. If its a small piece use a pin dipped in Cyano to apply.
