Title: Good Chris-Craft / Riva kit for beginner?
Post by: fastvee on February 04, 2014, 07:32:59 am
Hi, I am looking for something nice but not that complicated that it takes years to finish.

Really like the looks of Dumas boats, mainly the  1949 Chris-Craft Racing Runabout Kit #1249

The 1938 Chris-Craft 16' Painted Racer, Kit #1263 also looks nice, but mahogany looks better then paint...

These are the models I have spend countless hours on google to see more build pics etc .

Any thoughts how good kits these are?

I have build few boats, but never planked a hull.

I have no idea how hard these things are to build,I have limited knowledge of wooden boats.

List of what I have done:

countless fiberglass sport boats(10+)

Graupner Bremen

still in the workshop is aeronaut diva.

So should I do this or wait a bit and build another "easy kit" ?

Thanks Essex.

That is a bit different but may prove useful.

These I linked are supposed to be "ok" for beginners, the painted racer being easier.

The aeronaut jenny and pricsess look nice too but not in the same class as these imo.

The old chris craft and riva style is so nice but hoping not too difficult, but not excepting to build one in a weeks time...

Good for you!   :-)) :-)) :-))

Lovely looking boat - one of those that's fast even when it's standing still.  Be sure to keep us posted with your progress.

(At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Moderators, you might find this other modelling site (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1301317) of some interest - although I suspect you have come across it already.)
