A relative just gave me a fiberglass springer hull he had done some work on a few years ago. It had a couple of problems but nothing that can't be sorted. so now I have two springers!
One problem I have with the fiberglass springer hull is that the motor is not that well aligned with the propshaft - nothing too drastic but out of alignment none the less. I have put one of Mark's flexible silicon couplings on it and run it on a ammeter to see if the mis-alignment caused a heavy current drain and got a reading of 0.2 amps with no prop fitted. My wooden springer draws 0.29 amps under similar conditions so I guess the flexible coupling is compensating for the aligment? Do you think this will be ok? I can't see a way of removing the motor mount without damaging the hull so i hope this will be ok as is.

The flexible couplings are just the ticket for this type of problem.
The thing to watch out for is their length. Make sure that they are long enough to go between the two end pieces because during flexing, it might be possible to spring off the end if they are to short.

I kind of figured i was ok because the current draw was so low when i spun it up and there was no excessive vibration but it is nice to be sure............... Mark's Model Bits couplings are certainly the business!
On with springer number two then. This is great because with two springers to hand I may even get look in at the controls when i take my grandson to the lake.
