on e/bay a one way trip in a Lancaster from Canada to England in the Canadian Lancaster bomber to help towards the costs of its trip to uk in august...22 bids so far$56000. what a trip !!!!!!! slug

What a fantastic trip and I would guess out of our price range for most of us. But for those in the UK there is a Lancaster experience that does not require such a large outlay. Take a look here to see what I mean

I went last year and had a great day at the museum. I can recommend the taxy ride, it was great, but the museum is well worth a visit even if you don't go for a taxy. Just to hear those four Merlin engines start up is worth the trip to East Kirkby.

As it is flying out of Humberside Airport ( Ex RAF Kirmington) we should see a lot of it around Grimsby :-)) :-))
East Kirkby is well worth a visit. The BBMF visit most Bank Holiday Weekends.

Guys.......not knowing a lot about these aircraft.......but noticed
1. In the text.......this Lancaster had Packard-Merlin engines
2. Were they badge engineered from the original British Rolls Royce-Merlins?.........as being built in USA during the war

Hi Derek
Yes they were, my understanding is the Americans were asked to make the Merlin as we could not build them fast enough. Rolls Royce had a problem with the way Packard missed out some honing on the lower part of the bore, due to the mass production techniques they employed, and at first would not certify them for aircraft. At first they were put in tanks and boats, but later on into aircraft.

when I was there in 1976-78 teaching next door at the high school, you could pay a dollar and climb through the fuselage from the under belly escape hatch and sit in the pilot seat..........what an experience that was.......duly paid my dollar many a lunch time off from teaching.............brilliant it was too................sadly didn't have a camera in those days.and I suppose that is no longer allowed because of the HSE bods, lol

As it stands, the plan is for FM213 will depart from Hamilton on 4/8/2014 stopping at goose bay(Labrador)Narsarsuaq(Greenland)and Keflavik(Iceland) then onto Coningsby on the 8/8/2014(pm). There will be training & flights from 14/8/2014 alongside PA474. The Canadian lanc will be here for about a month, so keep your eyes peeled and watch for updates because this is going to be "FANTASTIC" to see both lancs flying in the sky together and "R.A.F.Coningsby" is going to be busy in august

I've sat in this Lancaster where it resides in Hamilton, it is housed in the Heritage warplane Museum, beside Hamilton International. That's about 40 miles out of Toronto on your way to Niagara Falls, worth the trip if anyone is going over that way.

Well, the flight is out of the question but I'm certainly going to Shoreham's Air Show to see both Lancs fly over accompanied by Spits and Hurricanes and Dakotas. I doubt if we'll get another chance.
