Hi all,
On with the FTX tug and i need a solution. What comes with the FTX running gear is rubber safety couplings which I dont want to use.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any online suppliers who can sort me out with an M8 threaded coupling going onto an 8mm motor shaft?
I may resort to a pully or chain drive if I cannot get the angles right.

Hi
I bought some large couplings from prop shop. The motor has an 8mm shaft and the prop shaft end would easily accomodate an 8mm thread.

Oh excellent :-))
Have fired off an email to prop shop to see what they can recommend.
Thanks

How deep are your pockets?

Some interesting looking stuff on here - http://www.motionco.co.uk/ - haven't done any shopping there yet.
-
Got some toothed belts, pulleys, shafts and bearing blocks from motionco and they were very good, fast delivery and quality.
Nige :-))

Problem is Nige that i would need one of the pullys to be M8 threaded - which is suppose is doable myself if I bore it out to 7mm and then tap it.
-
Guys.....ISO M8 x 1.25P = a tapping drill size of 6.80.....not 7.0 %).....Derek

Hi Dan
Great project :-))
Can you not use longer prop shafts that way the motor goes deeper in the hull you will get the couplings to line up just an idea
Then direct drive is possible

I may have found the solution!
The running gear comes with the flexy coupling, however it also comes with a brass collet type of thing in which should allow just looking at the rough diameter, a normal say robbe coupling to be used.
Will have a bash at it later on

Give Steve model boat bits a ring he will sort you one out and cheap as chips as well

Sadly no further forward.
having measured the little fittings, its still 8.5mm diameter I need to contend with.

shg do belt drives etc...at brians on sat .....tony

As I sadi give Mark a ring tell him what the dia on your motro shaft is and also your propshaft size is and he will MAKE you some

Raboesch Models has some interesting couplings.
It seems you buy a coupling, and can fit a splined connector into either end.
And if needed, a double ended spline could be fit between two universal couplings for
some extended alignments.
