Hello all.
We have been receiving an increasing no. of these calls recently.
One in particular from 003010, no more digits displayed unfortunately. Have diverted all calls to TAM but today is the worst so far
with 14 calls from them, one every 10/15 mins and no messages left.
Has anyone had any success with phones that have built in call blocker or stand alone blockers, if so which ones are the best option ?

Not sure about how to block nuisance calls but I did think I had something that might qualify for the guiness book or records 2 weeks ago.
I ordered a new mobile smart phone for a new member of my team at work. The phone was delayed arriving due to an in house issue over the order sign off but it arrived 2 days before I retired. I opened the box when it came to check the contents before giving her it when she came in later that morning. Switched it on and it had only just been switched on when it rang about 1 minute after being switched on. I answered and was greeted with ' ah good morning sir.......Im calling on behalf of xxxx. I believe you have been mis-sold PPI in the past. Did you know can claim all your paayments back and we can arrange that for you without any costs'.
My response was not politically correct.
Honestly 30 effing seconds!
I can only assume the network provider who begin with V and end in E have block sold all their numbers in advance to various companies. If it had been a private phone of my own I would have returned it and told them to place it somewhere dark on their person with some force!
30 seconds after switch on for the first time - unbelievable.

I get the same one about once a week.
Pressing 9 to opt out does not stop the same
company repeating the calls.
No good telling them where to go as it's automated.

I have a stand alone call blocker and it works really well hardly ever get unwanted calls now and if one does slip through I just push a button and that is that number blocked in the future

:-)) Phone companies recycle phone Nos,if a number has not been used for say 2 years they reissue it to a new customer,that number might be on a phoning list and you are getting them calls,I bought a spare phone jest to keep in the car in case of breakdowns it had so many calls from companies trying to sell me something,best of luck with blocking them,Ray. :-)) :-)) :-))

you can buy a bt phone to block calls but if you have 2 or more in the house all phones would have to be changed -I have one and believe me it works.

We have some sort of generic DECT phone I bought from Tescos. It has call blocking on it.
We used to get endless calls from some poor old dear who I fear was suffering from dementia. It didn't matter how many times you told her it was a wrong number, she'd persist in asking how little Johnny was doing.
The phone blocks her very nicely and we know when it has been blocked as it tells us later.

You could also check on your service providers website.
Across the pond we have some *## prefix that we can dial, and
block the last call number or input the number after the prefix to block.
A similar *## will unblock calls.
Not sure if it the same for mobile phones.

144 text messages for payday loans as soon as we fired up a new iphone for a new user the other day at work.
Called EE who apologised saying it was a recycled numberand changed the number to a new previously unused number.

iphones have call blocker when the phone rings answer it then in the call menu there is a 'block this caller' tab.

Another 6 calls this morning, first one at 09.00.
Have taken the advice of Younger @70 and ordered a stand alone blocker which monitors the line before the call reaches any phones in the house.
Will fit it and post the results, should take a few days.

Pressing 9, rather than delisting your line, probably only tells them that you are there to respond, and, according to their demented logic, still a potential victim customer. Assuming your phone is TPS registered, best bet is to persistently file reports with the ICO - http://ico.org.uk/concerns - it does take time for them to react, but I suspect that the guy in the office has to "prioritize", or just go for the biggest pile of complaints.
The most persistent annoyance for me at the moment is some lying lump trying to flog me a new boiler. Says "government approved" and "UK based", but lacks an opt out code and 1471-ing the caller returns a US code, probably with an incomplete number.

Had a call today telling me my windows computer is infected with malware a viruses.
He spent almost 40 mins trying to get his remote software to install,
I guess I should have told him it's a virtual machine on my mac, and it's Windows 1.0 (installed as part of a history lesson for my son)
Yes I know.... I was at home, bored waiting to go to the airport
