I've been following a thread about magnetic driveshaft couplers on another forum. Do any of you use them? I'd think that no holes in a WTC would be a nice thing, no wet motors either. But, no idea as to how efficient these things are, slipping etc.

Pete,
I'd much rather give the forum's address (you would too after trying to understand my trying to explain any of this stuff :)). So, here it is...

I hope it works...

These do sound very interesting, just wonder what torque they will transmit.

Bob,
I'm sure it has to do with the size/number/type of magnet used. Other than that, your guess is better than mine!

And keeps shock loading off the motor so should help to "soften" the current peaks too.

Magnetic coupling is often used on smaller water pumps. I've recently bought one at work to boost water pressure from 2bar to 12bar, so I guess they can take some 'work'. Might be real handy to prevent motor/battery over-load if the props foul in weed etc.

...And after thinking about it a bit, it really shouldn't make much difference in the two magnet 'plates' were not exactly 'square', sort of tilted a bit. Think I just did away with those @#$ 'U'-joints!
