Post by: Waternymph on May 27, 2014, 10:20:36 am
Right then....I have picked out the following to choose from for my first boat:-

Robbe Paula IV
Aeronaut Queen Sports Boat circa 1960s
Aeronaut Dolly Harbour Launch 1:20

Out of the three, I would like to do Option 2.....thoughts anyone??

I'd concur with sparkey.  The Queen is a great looking boat in a modern style kit.  The laser cut parts are a great help if you've never built something like this.  There's just enough needs doing so you feel as if you've actually built it rather than assembled a kit.
You'll have a lot of options regarding motors so you can have a sedate cruiser or a "hair on fire" speed boat.  Check out Queens on U bend (sorry, youtube!) and get an idea of looks and performance.

Thanks very much guys. I am a total beginner in building boats but I'll deffo shout if I need help.  The only building experience I have is building the Mig aircraft model I built in my air cadet days many moons ago.

The Queen it is  :-))

Robbe Paula III
I started one but didn't finish it.
Cheap but I found the construction design too clever for it's own good.
Easy to cut the plastic wrong.

Aeronaut Queen Sports Boat circa 1960s
Don't know what the 'build' is like but  makes-up into a lovely model when finished.
Not cheap....

Aeronaut Robbe Dolly Harbour Launch 1:20
Lots and lots of these about and has been many modellers first model.

Also have a look at the Model Slipway Mini kits and the Vintage Model Boat Company.

Thank you Martin.  Tbh, I didn't fancy the Dolly purely because it looks too much like a girly kids toy.....not the right reasons to say no for a beginner project I know but I'd prefer a wooden one anyway.  :-)

Vladyka range of speed 400 boats - Cheap, very easy to build and great on the water with the supplied 7.2v motor and prop. Built their pilot boat with my 7 year old to be a "sister" ship to my model slipway RTTL which may be out of production as they dont seem to advertise the mini kits anymore.
