Title: Team Associated RC10 ReRelease - Extra Bling Build
Post by: essex2visuvesi on June 18, 2014, 10:38:53 pm

I thought I'd post a build log of my current build.  It will be fully operational but probably won't see a track.
Its the 2013 re release of the legendary Gold Pan RC10.  As a kid I always wanted one but couldn't afford one, so when AE announced that they were re releasing it went top of the shopping list.

I have now found the time to actually start building it even tho I have had it since Xmas.
In the meantime I found an excellent manufacturer of aftermarket bling for the RC10 classic DHawk racing who do a full set of alloy upgrade parts in the same anodised gold as the original pan.
http://www.atomikrc.com/collections/dhawk-racing/products/alloy-conversion-gear-set-for-1-10-associated-rc10-gold

Parts were duly ordered along with a set of alloy shock clamps and some rather tasty CNC machined alloy wheels.

Anyways first few stages have been completed:

Can Anyone spot the deliberate mistake?

The stub axles are the wrong way round, steering arms should be to the back   :-))

Always had a love/hate relationship with this car.

On the one hand it totally defined what a model buggy should be built like, with very good suspension a relatively decent gearbox and chassis, and really all 2WD chassis since are refinements of this design.

On the other it really began the trend of expensive machines (alongside contemporaries like the Schumacher Cat, high end Kyosho's etc.) which pushed me out of hobby as I was just a roadblock with modified budget Tamiya.

I quite agree :) Back then I was running a Tamiya Superchamp and was doing reasonably well, then the RC10 came along and ruined everything lol
It got to the stage where he who had the biggest chequebook won and being sponsored by odd jobs and saturdays in a motorbike shop I wasn't one of them :(

The Alloy wheels I bought for this car are for more modern tyres :( and will not fit the stock tyres

I have a challenge for someone:-
recreate the stock plastic wheels in aluminium.
I can supply the originals for reference purposes if required
Drop me a PM if you fancy it.  This car is a labour of love so happy to pay well for a good job.

here's a pic of the wheels in question

Hi looks nice I do agree about price of these buggies when they came out me and my father used to race touring cars 1/10 indoors I used to race a schumacher sst sport and then upgraded to a tc3 factory team after two years of use with the sst but we quit racing when u had people turning up using full on tyre warmers weighing there car and trimming bits of got really silly, if it's going to be a shelf queen then it will look lovely but to use it one I'd be scared to think of the total price of all the shiney bits and two they look nice but I'd rather plastic metal parts bend from my experience

The upgrades so far have cost the more than the kit. and I still need a motor, ESC and batteries  :o

plus there's the 3 bodyshells I have ruined trying to get the paintjob right

I have to agree on the metal vs plastic.  My current race car is a Schumacher Mi5

The steering Servo..... probably overkill but it looks at home amongst the bling!

Between me and my son we are racing 4 Scumachers:-
Mi5
Mi1 (Sons)
Cougar SV
CAT 3000 (sons)
That CAT may be old technology but its still competitive

Have to say a big thank you to Mick (irishcarguy) for the stirling job he did on repairing the balls up I made of the front uprights  :D
I managed to fit the ballstuds on the wrong sides and then snap them off trying to remove them.
Mick carefully removed the remaining stud and retapped them to perfection..... without leaving a single mark the anodising.  And all this while knocking at deaths door!
while I've been waiting for the parts to be repaired I have finally managed to get the bodyshell to a stage where I am happy with it

Never did get the hang of painting lexan shells. Much prefer ABS or GRP hard shells.

Me too, can get a much nicer finish, and more detail.
Got this one on pre order :)
