Title: Norwich Sub Weekend
Post by: U-33 on July 28, 2014, 06:58:17 am
What a day...what a superb day it's been, courtesy of Norwich Model Boat Club. I can honestly say I've never been made to feel more welcome to any model boat club meeting before. Everybody fussed around me, made me sit down when I needed to, made sure I took my medication, and generally treated me like royalty!

I want to say a huge 'Thank You' to everybody I've met today, I've never shaken so many hands in my life...it was so good to be able to put faces to what were previously only internet names, to meet up with old friends from thirty years ago, and to make new friends.

I'm sorry we had to leave early, but I'd had enough, my knees were starting to hurt badly, I was getting a splitting headache as well, but it was so worthwhile, even though I managed to break the rudder on my Akula getting it out of the front door.

Nice to do business with Mark Rogerson (Grim Reaper) and Steve Juden (SubWarrior), I managed to spend in excess of £250 (ouch...)

Very special thanks to Ian Smith (IanPAL) for being my driver/nurse/and general damn good mate for the day...and thank you again, everybody, for making the day so good.

Highlight of the day...seeing Alistair Cull (Al1) picking up ten foot of Ohio like you and I would pick up a matchstick!

Thank you all once more..

Rich

Yes it was a really good day out, my first ever sub day, and looking forward to the next one. Norwich boat club couldn't make you feel more welcome if they tried.

Perhaps next time Rich, if your feeling up to it we could book a couple of rooms at local travel lodge or something, and do both days?

The only thing that I wished was different was why didn't I put my hand in my pocket while we were there, it would of save me another trip up there this coming weekend to pick up my new sub  >>:-(

What do you mean, you HOPE to have the U boat ready for Bournville? Shouldn't that be you Will have it ready......

You never forget your first time, Ian...it was a brilliant day, well worth the trip.

I'd be up for a two day session, mate...as long as the motel serves Draught Guinness.  ;D

Jeff has volunteered to deliver the sub to you, or meet half way...save another four hour trip.

I'm just working on the U-boat now, getting those foreplanes operational via their own dedicated servo, and use the rear ones on the leveller. She'll be ready for Bournville...fear not.

Akula is fully operational, Mark...the linkage to the rudder from the servo has an adjustable connector inline. Where I'd whacked it on the table, the two pieces of wire had been pushed up through the connector, lengthening one and shortening the other...no wonder I'd got hardly any rudder movement to port and far too much to starboard!

Thanks to everyone and especially Norwich MBC for another really good sub weekend!

Both days were very good - the Saturday for sailing and the Sunday for chatting.

Thanks again to everyone and I will post some photos when I've returned from my travels.
