One for you sub guys what's the options out there for a 1/48 scale submarine????
Prefer British subs over German, I know it's going to be large depending on which vessel it is.
Is there any kits out there in this scale or would it be a scratch build only.

Modern none but ww2
The old Darnell ones are 1:48 I think they are now with
Mountfleet models but unsure

The Robbe U-47 is 1/40th.

I spoke with Adam of Mountfleet Models at the Norwich sub weekend and they do indeed have all the Darnell moulds still in a reasonable state, apparently. Worth contacting them if you want to build the whole thing.
It is a good that you are interested in British subs because they are relatively rare. U boats seem to be uppermost in peoples minds for some reason!

Surprised noone has mentioned OTW. They do a very nice O-class in 1/48th scale and if you want something a little more modern a Upholder class at 1/10th (not quite 1/48th, but very close). Both are still fairly rare sights in model form, so you can be sure of having something fairly original.
Their kits are more pricey than the older Darnell range, but they do require less work (e.g. they tend to come with more fittings, and the mouldings fit together better etc.) and build nicer IMO.
They also do other Brit subs, but the scales are well beyong the specified 1/48th.

I believe the T-Class from Darnell/Models By Design and now Mountfleet is 1/48 scale.
