Have got upholder back on the water after 12 years in storage a few trim issues but the boat ran faultlessly, t hat was down to the sheerline dive unit and its reliability now im retired ive got to find something to do , pete
-
Excellent!
.... I wonder what ever happened to my upholder?
I sold it to a bloke in Milford haven....
-
Thanks martin , its probably still around its a big hull, hoping start work on another u, thanks pete
-
Surfacing on the boatclub slipway, pete
-
I'd be interested in her guts, could you post some photo please. :-)
-
Will do Martin, will post some pics tomorrow, the dive unit is Sheerline unit with a stainless tank , all credit to Chris at Sheerline,
Pete
-
Hi Pete
Wow thats a blast from the past .... :-)
great to see it in the water again
tim
-
Hi tim , sailed it at pickering park tuesday afternoons with alan, I forgot how well she sails , its lifting her out of the water I struggle with, good to hear from you, pete
-
That looks good Pete...obviously a well built boat. Nice mate...
Rich
-
Thanks richard, john darnell and people like bernie wood inspired people like me and yourself to build and sail rc submarines, sorry got emotional there pete
-
Hi Martin , soory the pics are not brilliant, this a view from the stern to bow, the sheerline unit fits well , you can just make out the battery pushed into the bow section
-
Im a luddite when it comes to pc, s heres a view of the modified bow with battery and foam ballast, pete
-
Now ive got nothing to do! I want build another u , the hull I have is a darnell moulding . Im not that good at cutting drain slots, I would like to improve on upholder, the slots on the u class hull are a little on the large side, I had old darnell s class hull which was in a bad way so I thought I would experiment with brass square and filler on the s with the view to using this idea on the u. Pete
-
A close up of the s class bow with brass square, I know this is fiddly but it does improve the look and neatness of the slots, pete
-
Much better than my effort....
Is it OK to post some photos on your topic Pete?
-
No problem Martin
-

Shouldnt have sold her martin, some great work there, the gas/propel system works well and is very light , that boat is out there still, did you modify the boxes, pete
-
Yes, I think i did, split the single box in two and built to new bulkheads.
screws were also the battery charge terminals.
There was a Ron Parrot SALCON in there two.
Pneumatic valve and a glow engine carb as the blowdown valve.
-
The pushrod connectors look interesting never seen those before, like the set up, the hull moulding looks crisp, the deck gun very nice martin, did you sail her, build another one martin, remember kaptain bill,
-
Hi pete
the brass work is an improvement , giving you a clean edge , keep it up
I'm sure you can find something to keep you busy
what condition is the pond in ?
Tim
-
I think jooles already has, the brass does improve the look I was going to try plastruct but couldn't find any box section, was at the pond yesterday afternoon , no weed at all . I think they have put some kind weed killer in there the fish are doing fine , I was pursued by a rogue plastic bag that someone had been feeding the ducks with, I do miss sailing at east park, I dont think anything is going to happen till the coots have moved on. Pete
-
Very nice subs, thanks. I particularly like the gun.
Thanks for sharing!

Its been a while but have started work on upholder mk 2 i have a one of the last hulls john darnell produced . I was going to build her as hms upright with the flush bow the hull is more v than u , but with a bit fattening up and a new bow a new upholder is on the stocks, will post some pics soon regzrds pete
-
Upholders casing has been rebuilt using perspex to widen the deck the bow was built up using thick plastic card i used the Renee le ferve plan of hms upright/ upholder to get the bulbus troublesome bow to its correct shape .Ive had to rescribe all of the deck detail and try to improve on my first attempt . The pics show rear escape hatch ,smoke candle ejector hatch , wt mast station ,which still needs squareing off, engine space cover plate which still need bolt/rivet heads fitting, and that lovely bow, also when I got the kit it came with all fittings john supplied with hull, hoping to get to norwich with the boat ,regards pete
-
Looking really good so far, will be watching this :-))
