Hi Guys. I hope to start my second carrier before the end of this year USS Copahee. This ship carried various cargo out to the front and brought back various aircraft. The two P 47 are from Airfix at 1/100 scale but they are all marked in European colour schemes so they need a new paint job. The next aircraft will be a C 47 or Dakota, more to follow.

Hi Stan. I have just been reading about USS Copahee's varied and important WWII work transporting planes personnel and supplies around the Pacific. Very interesting. I know your model would be a fitting tribute to this unusual vessel.
Can't wait to see more :-))

Indeed, I always thought aircraft carriers to make poor subjects for model boats until I learnt of HMS Furious and Ark Royal etc, and now apreciate the fun you can have creating mini dioramas on the flight deck with any number of aircraft and ground crew. I fancy a go at building HMS Argus but like many of us, I have enough projects on the go as it is!
Keep up the good work.

Stan google aircraft resource centre you should find info on here.....Bill......

HI Guys I thought you might like to see a selection of model aircraft that will be on my second carrier which I hope to start in early 2015. Aircraft types 2 P47 thunderbolts 2 Zeros and a incomplete C47 Sky train. I will post pictures of the c 47 when complete. For those of you out there who might think Zeros on American Carrier Yes it did carry them.

Looking good Stan
Neat job on the undercarriage :-))
-
I so want to make aircraft noises but will restrict myself to saying how nice they look. Were the Zeros used as training aircraft for US pilots to train against?
-
The captured zeros were taken back to the U S for evaluation.

-
Ah right, makes sense.
-
Did they keep their Japanese markings?

If my history serves me correctly, Zeroes were test flown over Brisbane from Archerfield Airport which was used by the USAAF.
Archerfield is now Brisbane's light aircraft airport, a couple of plaques exist relating to its WWII history and the control tower, rectangular type building, has been preserved as has the cemetery at the airport entrance.

Hi Stan I have constantly admired the meticulous way you approach your model making and blending this with a little bit of the unusual , particularly that of a C-47 on the deck of a carrier . Further to that I recall reading an article some time back on Operation High jump a long forgotten 1947 military operation once dubbed the invasion on Antarctica. In that operation 8 USN R4Ds which where the naval version of the famous C-47 took off from the carrier USS Philippine Sea between 25th January to 30th 1947 supporting the Antarctic operation . I'll be looking forward to seeing the completed model of both the C47 and of course the carrier.

Japanese Markings still on while aboard the carrier.

I have been asked by longshanks to show the paint job on the second future carrier. Enclosed are port and starboard views. The ship carries measure 32 pattern 12A. The C 47 Is on hold at the moment refitting out a Robbe Sea Wolf submarine.

Nice one Mate :-))
You really do like a challenge don't you
-
It reminds me of paintng Caunter camouflage on model tanks! You have the unenviable task of masking that up. It will look splendid when completed though.

HI Guys I have recently found two 1/100 scale PBY Catalina aircraft for the second carrier model. These are now very rare and to obtain two within a month is fantastic. The pictures show the 1958 box artwork and the monogram box is around 1973 this was the last art work up date for this model so I have been told. The box with the white back ground is 1973 version.

Like with us wargamers, sometime you have to upset the 'Loft fillers' and build those hard to come by kits. They are for making not for keeping in boxes.
