Title: Mayhem welfare dept.
Post by: pettyofficernick on September 15, 2014, 09:37:58 pm
Good evening gentlemen, A big thanks to Stan Reffin from Kirklees, who telephoned me this evening to see if I was ok as I hadn't been on Mayhem much of late, what a kind thing to do. I have not done much Mayhemming of late, as I occasionally get fed up with computers, and I have been having a rest from boat building after the completion of The African Queen. I am, however, building a steam engine from castings, which I have been posting on another forum, if anyone is interested I can do a bit of copy and pasting and run it here as well. It is nice to know there fellow model boaters who keep in touch. I am alive and kicking, and when I start the steam powered Clyde Puffer, it will be business as usual. ( I already have the kit, engine and boiler). I have spent most of the summer playing with AQ, and with my new(ish) Speed 10.:-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

I'm ok too.  Been on road trip to S of France on the bike. Now stuck in caravan in Wharfdale. It had to be done, sorry. Normal service from shed will be resumed next week.

I'm with Footski, copy them here. I can only manage one forum.
Regards
Jerry.

Been sunbathing down here in the deep south - honestly. Well, OK it's hotter out in the garden today than it ever was in August.

Project for the Autumn is to renovate a tug for me my grandson to play with over the winter, on those cold but still days on the lake.

Not been doing much model building just lately as I have acquired a 12" to the foot sailing yacht that needs a lot of work before it can go back in the water.

Hi Guys

Sorry for going AWOL. Several things happened but mainly I haven't been too well for quite a while. Then I sort of looked at my house and thought that much needed updating and my playing with boats wasn't helping - oddly enough my wife had been saying that for a long time  >>:-( So now I am just back from a nice break in Malta  :}  and I thought I would come home to Mayhem. By Christmas I will be back in the shed and no doubt happier (and safer) than I am messing with wallpaper and up ladders.

For anyone missing Mick (Irishcarguy) I have spoken with him on Tuesday. He isn't in the best of health these days but he is certainly coping and I can report that his ability to talk for hours is completely unaffected.

Regards Dave

Yes, ladders are a *!?**%$£ when you are getting on a bit. You remember shinning up them like a monkey when you were younger and now there are severe centre of gravity issues! I have been up on the garage roof this week doing repairs to the carport and it certainly ain't as easy as it was. Last year I went up in wet conditions and the ladder slipped away from under me leaving me dangling from the roof with one foot on the conservatory window frame beneath. Frightened the life out of my Wife who had to reposition the ladder to get me down and who now insists, quite sensibly, on holding the ladder whenever I'm on it.

Ladders are dangerous! (but cheaper than helicopters I suppose)

Yes, ladders are a *!?**%$£ when you are getting on a bit.

Because of leaves and general maintenance I have to get up to our gutters and other roof parts a few times a year. I was beginning to struggle with setting up my extending ladder, so I about a year ago I splashed out on a cheapish scaffold tower. It does take longer to set up than a ladder but it's a heck of a lot easier and safer to work from. I've used it several times now and it is a boon.
