Hi folks this is my first post. I am looking for help in locating 2 ripmax marine windows code p120 .I know these windows are no longer in production after reading an article on this forum . The model I need them for is an old motoryacht bought from ebay . The model arrived a bit bashed up due to the lead ballast being loose but should restore ok . I bought it after falling in love with the lines and after some research found a copy of the original plans and a magazine with the model as the main project. I will restore her as a working model and sail her. I would appreciate any help locating 2 of these windows and have cash waiting ,thanks Alan
-
Alan.........each of the images confirm they have ZERO kb's of content.......... %% ..
This is also confirmed by the error message O0 ..................Derek

Or search on the Internet perhaps?

Hi ive tried 3 times to upload pictures but it keeps coming up as an internal server error ,i will try my old desktop and see if its any better cheers Alan
-
The images must also have a separate name. Yours indicate the words 'image' only.
Are you using the attachments option below your letter ?
Are you taking the images direct from your computer
and are they below 200k in size ?
Hope this helps

Does it look like this?

Hi your a saviour I've been trying to download an identical picture but still having problems even after cropping it .The 2 windows I need are identical to that ,it originally had eight and two round portholes but arrived missing two windows and one porthole .The porthole was easy enough to get but the ripmax windows are proving more of a challenge. I have one side of the hull and the stern sprayed but can't finish the other until I get the matching windows. Thanks for posting the picture
-
I only have that sole survivor I think.
You could try contacting Reade plastics, I'm pretty sure they had the tools for those, although they no longer show them on their website. Try emailing them my picture, or link them to this thread.

-
Thanks I'll try them just now ,I'm pretty sure that's where I got the portholes. I'll keep trying the photos thanks Alan (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/webkit-fake-url://c72641ca-7f2d-4d95-a391-30c4baa24195/imagejpeg)(http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/webkit-fake-url://7a3ac801-e569-408f-9a6a-d7f413126b4f/imagejpeg)(http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/webkit-fake-url://ff2d79e1-b8a5-40ab-b5f3-bcf0ee954754/imagejpeg)(http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/webkit-fake-url://491ff76c-3813-49d7-a588-3243d5d96830/imagejpeg)

I use a free Photobucket account for posting photos, much easier than faffing about with local hosting, and makes it easy to post across multiple forums .
-
Be an ideal job to justify buying one of those new-fangled 3D printers.....
-
A 3d printer crossed my mind but I'm unsure if they can scan one if the original windows thanks Alan
-
Alan,
If the original could be measured accurately enough in all dimensions it wouldn't take too long to knock one up in a 3D modelling program and then have one printed by one of the many 3D modelling services or find a person online (there's plenty of 3D printing groups/forums) local to you with a 3D printer who would be able to sort it for you in return for a few bottles of beer?
Seems like it could be the only way?
-
I can measure the one I have, if someone else can do the 3D CAD work. I would get them printed with a something like the very accurate processes offered by Shapeways if you want a crisp replica like the injection moulded originals.
-
Subculture - if you can do the measuring, I will do the drawing.... :-))
I will then email the corresponding stl file to the chap who requires the window for him to send to Shapeways for printing.
Although - if the boat still has a few of the originals on it, why doesn't the OP just carefully remove one, make a mould of it and cast a few more?
-
Is this adequate?

-
Looks just the ticket to me! I can work with that. Just one question - is the centre bar recessed about 0.5mm from the main frame?
-
Yes, sorry missed that. Measures between 0.4mm and 0.45mm.
-
Grand! I will crack on.........
-
Can't belive how helpful you guys are , I hope I get a chance to repay your efforts . I know nothing about 3d printers but will be more than happy to pay the costs thank you guys very much .
-
No worries Alan.
I will sort the file out this evening and it will be available on the Shapeways site for you to purchase as many as you need.
Will attach the link when done :-))
-
Got me thinking.... maybe there's beer money in this kind of thing :)
-
Here you go Alan - will this suffice?
If so, I will upload it to Shapeways.

Drawn using Subculture's excellent info :-))
-
Hi that looks perfect to me ,I've looked through forums for various things but this is the first time I have ever used one. I really appreciate the trouble you guys have taken as on the original plans it shows these windows but I just could not find any. I am 47 years old and have done model boats back and forth since I was a kid .The last model I did was an unfinished sandwich constructed broads type cruiser bought from ebay. The basic boat was well built it had just never been finished. The one I need the windows for is similar though not so well finished . I find time wise this suits me at present to do a refurb rather than a new build . I am going to try and upload pictures of the boat and post then as work continues thanks Alan .
-
OK Alan - you can order the windows through Shapeways here :
https://www.shapeways.com/shops/linkspanmodels (https://www.shapeways.com/shops/linkspanmodels)
This is the first time I have attempted to sell any of my models through Shapeways, so please let me know how you get on eh?
I think the price is set at 7.91 euros each (the parts are printed in Holland). I say 'I think' as it was quite a tortuous process to get the part up to a 'shop' to sell in the first place!!!! %%
If I had a 3D printer, I would have a go at printing it myself........
-
Hi I can't thank you guys enough for your time and trouble it restores your trust in a world where most people want to either scam or con you .I have ordered and paid for the windows and they are due to be shipped on 22nd .I will let you know how they turn out and post photos as soon as they arrive ,thankyou both again Alan
-
My pleasure Alan - I hope they turn out OK.
-
Hi unfortunately shapeways say it's too fragile to print and will refund my money. I really appreciate what you tried but was wondering about trying to cast one in resin. I could try removing a window and pressing it into model clay ,filling this with a 2 part resin and painting.
-
Should work fine, failing that I'll give them a go on my 3d printer when it arrives 😊
-
Thanks I'm just about to scrounge my sons modelling clay and see how it goes .

Hi Alan - Just got in from work and noticed this.
Yes - I got that message too. It relates to the centre bar being too thin in depth for the material chosen. In Frosted Ultra Detail it would be OK, but that is much more expensive. I will thicken up the offending part to the minimum needed for Shapeways to be happy with it. If you want to re-purchase them, then they will be available - but no obligation.
Sorry for messing you about.
Carl
-
That would be great the bar on the originals were very thin I had to repair two of them .I can cut the clear plastic to suit your design thanks again Alan
-
OK - all sorted. It should work OK now.
Would be very embarassing if it doesnt!!! :embarrassed:
-
Hi do I just go into the original link thanks Alan
-
Yes Alan - That should work.
-
Hi that's them ordered thanks for your trouble again Alan
-
Only too glad to help!!!!
I will leave the component on the site should you break any others or need others.

Finally got photos to upload using photobucket thanks again to everyone who helped me ,I will keep posting as renovation proceeds

Looks like it is coming along nicely Alan :-)) O0

Hi I had a few problems regarding paint . I tried painting over the old enamel and varnish with cellulose primer which reacted . The local paint shop advised sanding and leaving it overnight and painting with enamel. This seams to have worked! The windows have been made by shapeways and should be shipped this week. As soon as they are made I can carry on painting then fit a brass keel protector I have made.
-
Alan you should have read the article on painting in the paint section O0

Hi Dave I didn't know about the forum and all the links until I looked for help locating the windows .Since then I have been going through the forum and been amazed at the number of tips you can pick up. The one about using microscope slides as windows looked like something I'd like to try if I can get them wide enough cheers Alan
