Dive In To Papplewick Pumping Station!

A model submarine event at Nottingham's prestigious water pumping station

April 5th 2015, 11am-5pm

Papplewick Pumping Station warmly invites owners and operators of radio controlled model submarines to attend our Steaming Easter event on Sunday the 5^th of April.  Admission for submarine owners is free as is Parking. There are a few spaces on site available for those arriving before 11 and leaving after 5, otherwise you will have to park in the car park. There is a trolley available to move your subs and kit to the pond.Our facilities include a volunteer operated café serving hot and cold drinks and snacks, toilets, and of course our famous James Watt Beam engine in steam, as well as a number of other attractions. To anyone who hasn't visited Papplewick and seen the magnificent Victorian engine house with The Beast in steam then you have missed a real 'jaw-dropper'. We also have one of the most pleasant model boating ponds in the UK, surrounded all the way with rounded concrete edging. The water level is a little low at present (well, yesterday) so launching cradles are recommended. The car park is just across the road and it's no more than 100m walk from car park to pond-side. BTW Papplewick Pumping Station is about 8 miles north of Nottingham, just off the A60 Mansfield Road and about 6 miles from M1 Junction 27.

I have already we have around 10 submariners turning up..the more the merrier..

Along with other Kirklees club members I attended this event. The lake is set in the grounds of the pump station and is quite large with a depth of about 3 feet. The beam engine and boiler room are well worth a visit. I did manage to get some pictures, more to follow. Thank you to the pump station staff for looking after us during our visit
