anyone know of 1/72 modern RN crew?
-
Hi,
Try:
These are plastic/resin and may need a bit of tweaking. The nikolai ones do paint up very well. Many are made of metal , good but heavy,

Many of the Gunthwaite figures will pass for modern rig. Especially the tropical kit.
-
Hi,
Are the Gunthwaite figures metal?
As my newbuild is a working 1/72 all topside weight has to be kept low.
Even the cabins are made of 0.6mm ply.

I think some are resin ( not absolutely sure about that) but mostly metal.
-
Not wishing to to pirate the thread, but does anyone know of any 1/72 USN figures for WW2, apart from the few resin or metal ones?
The best ones I've seen are on Benno's Figures but many of those are modified Airfix.
Apologies Rob :embarrassed:

Airfix's American Airforce Ground crew are probably about the best option for figure wearing working rig. I wouldn't be surprised if Preiser didn't do 1/72nd scale sailors though.
-
Preiser don't seem to do sailors atall. Adapting the airfix is fine, it's just that the uniform caps could be a nightmare {:-{ so if anyone knows..........?

steam railway engine crew in 00 gauge are something you could try to adapt.they come in packs of 6 and can be obtained from a good railway shop

Pardon my ignorance on scale, I have Preiser ships crew at 1:87
Is that any good to you?
-
Thanks Rick, but I'd tried the DanTaylor site and all I could find was the RN crew. I may take a run down to Hornchurch for the Southern Expo that they are going to see if there's anything there. General Googling comes up with plenty of RN and Kreigsmarine plus the odd pirate but not a lot else. Surely someone must do US crew addons for the Fletcher class models etc.
Tony :-))

In Antics model shop in Bristol saw in the Railway stuff a set of modern(ish) RN figures, but as I was late and it was literally a dash in dash out job, never bought them >:-o cant recal maker either doh, think it was something like modelscale or similar, will have to check with them.

Thanks for those Rick. Most are, as the Armahobby ones, in sets of 3 which could cost megabucks for a decent size vessel. I've attached a pic for some from a crew of 100+ on an aircraft carrier. They're converted from 'normal' Airfix type packs of (normally) 72 which makes it much more cost-effective. Rumour has it (Hannants) that Revell are producing a 50+ set of Kreigsmarine figures for release later this year, so where are the others?
Cheers
Tony

The Revell Kriegsmarine are a re-issue (just as well as I'm working on the Airfix e-boat and could only find one of my old sprues) - for the Plastic Soldier Review review of the set see here:-

Hi Frank,
Looks like it's the rebuild job again {:-{ .
I've just put the red pompoms on a load of 1:96 French matelots so I suppose I'm on a roll. Just wanted an easier life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recetly bought a box of Revell WW2 Japanese infantry, these because of the short tunics, peaked caps and putee's on their boots are the most covertible to a modern tug crew
