Mine does - of getting on with my build anyway >>:-(
I've been really busy at work and have hardly got home at all in weeks. Apart from the obvious of missing the family it is having a serious impact on what I can get done on my boat which I love to do!
I am seriously thinking about stopping european trucking and getting a job in the UK for more quality time all round.
So does yours too?
-
yep
leave the house at just after 5:30 am returning about 7:30pm
2 hours commute each way gets a bit wearing after a while
-
No sorry lads it doesn't as I was lucky enough to take early retirement with good pay off and great company pension at 55, but then the wife thought that just made me a gofer, and daughter thought I would be her maintenance man, as she didn't what me getting bored that's how I got to fall 18ft off the ladder and knacker my shoulder but should be ok after my op.
Regards Howard.
-
Your job will not get in your way until you retire.
You will then find as Howard has that the kids
have a very cheap maintenance man.
I have cracked a rib this week replacing guttering
for my youngest Daughter

retirement sounds like a dangerous option :o
-
I stopped europe work and just drive in the UK but still away 4 to 5 nights cant wait till i retire :-))
-
I like Howard took early retirement at 57. I find time for modelling but every day you look at the clock and say blinking heck, Its lunchtime already and the day is almost over and you've accomplished nothing {-) I will say being in the UK for six weeks has been hard. every day decorating from daybreak to sundown so we can sell our UK property. It's on the market since Wednesday but that's a whole other story!
-
Looks like quite a few truck drivers make model boats, I've never done european work but still find when I'me not on a night out I'me doing 13/15 hour shifts only to start again 11 hours later, does'nt leave much time for anything let alone building models <:(
-
I was retired by the job at 57, but I seem to work harder and have less time to myself with wife wanting a taxi driver and school runs for the grand children, I forgot to mention dog walks as one old boy said to me you will truly retire when you are 72 and the youngest grand child starts senior school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea I second that :o :o I'll keep working I think {-) Mind you it would seem that our retired members are far more busy than me!

This is what I'm going back too I think - You know how it is on european, your reload gets delayed on Friday and then nothing till Monday and your going nowhere. Whilst some lads would love this life once you've seen other places its no different to being in the UK.

Yes this was how it was for me - quite a while ago but at least on UK work the chances of being weekended away are reduced O0 Crikey I also never realised that truck drivers are closet boat builders {-)

Think I wil put a copy of model boats mag on the front of my dashboard :-)) %%

I was retired at 51, after spending some time part timing on a zero hours contract, I found another job, but the downside is the daily commute, if the M25 gets bad it can add hours to my travel. so now I really only have weekends to cram in all of the household jobs and hobbys.

I retired 5 years ago and at first I was also an unpaid maintenance man ( daughters, sister etc. ) then I said enough is enough, fifty years of work is enough for anyone, so now I can spend all the time I want on my builds, with the occasional shopping trip , grass cutting, dog walking etc. Even the wife won't let me go up ladders, jobs a good un. %) %) :-))

Hi Mark
It's not work that get in the way it's retirement as you will have worked out ,O and health problems , I see jobs about our place ,we live with my daughter and son in law with two grandchildren so when I am trying to get on with my build I start to feel guilty about not doing jobs . I was over in Rotterdam last week not used to all the driving now finished up with a bad back can not bend so no work on boat or jobs all very frustrating . So does work get in the way sometimes I wish it did .
Keep on trucking mate

found the solution
I said: you want to make works? OK
Here are tools ...................
It calmed them :-)) :-)) :-)) O0 {-)

I retired 18 months ago, at 67. Just felt I had had enough. Strange thing is I seem to get less time on the boats now than I did before. Household chores are split between the Blue List and the Pink List, but since I packed up work it seems much has been reallocated to the Blue List. Key time is still getting away to the workshop to avoid the endless forensic dramas on television in the evenings. I just have to fit it in when I can, in planned stints.
I will admit that with the stage I am at on my current build I have being going AWOL quite a bit lately.

Who mentioned ladders?
Last summer after being nagged asked every day, to replace the bulb in one of the outside lights. The first words from her mouth one morning were 'will the light be fixed today?' when we woke up, I acted immediately! Of course I have been banned from using ladders since then, at least if I only have flip flops on-- the footing is dangerous you know!

That's taking the Builder's Bum a tad too far >>:-(

It's the candyfloss that worries me - I can't see the stick....

I spat my toast out I laughed so hard when I read that {-) {-) {-)

PMSL.
As I said. It worked, she doesn't ask me to go up ladders any more and only ever mentions wanting something done once {-)
-
What concerns me is where you hung your tools :o
-
After reading all the comments regarding work and modelling time, I guess I'm lucky being self employed. The downside being if I took into account all the days I'd taken off to build a model it would make it a very expensive model !
Further reading regarding the positioning of candy floss sticks, quite frankly worries me greatly.

My job used to take me away a fair bit, but I'd often take a bit of a kit I was working on away with me...had a few strange looks from people when sitting in the truck cab building a boat... %)
Then came forced retirement due to health problems...now I have all the time in the world to build boats, but my health limits the time I can actually do it.
But, there's others out there far worse than me who have had to quit the modelling scene completely, so I count my blessings that I can still do a bit, and appreciate everything that people do for me.
As for the picture from Brian56...I needed a large scotch to settle the old ticker down after seeing that!
-
Not often you see a full moon in the morning :)

I have seriously contemplated doing exactly this {-) I haven't as of yet!
-
Does my job get in the way ?
Yes only slightly, my boats haven't touched the water in 18months although the collection continues to expand somehow.
Only 37 years to retirement and ill be able to sail every day :)
-
These days running my own company yes it gets in the way rather a lot. By the time I finish in the evenings I have barely enough time to eat dinner before bed.
Last weekend was a great example, ended up working Saturday and the Bank Holiday Monday as something came up.
I also used to drive trucks for a living and, surprisingly, I used to get far more done then that I do now with an office job.
I used to take one of those huge solid plastic toolboxes with me in the cab with all my model boat stuff and supplies and used to build things like the wheelhouses and detail items while waiting for loads or on breaks. Stopped me snacking on junk food and was productive.
Also I used to run an airline off the seat connector to an airbrush (standard £3 ebay line) and could get painting done too. Left only the big hull type items to do at home which greatly speeded up the build of my models as well as the detail level.
Used to be able to have 2 or 3 boats on the go in that job....now I struggle to make time for small bits on one :(
-
Also I used to run an airline...
:embarrassed: I had to read that sentence twice!
