Title: Milling tools
Post by: Brian60 on April 29, 2015, 06:54:04 am
I'm in need of a 0.5mm slotting mill with a 3mm shaft. Does anyone have a company that sells them apart from Dremel!

Thanks for the link. The shafts are 4mm not 3mm but I think I can get a holder for that. £8.40 plus p&p, I'll get one on order.

Hi Guys.  This is a bit off the subject but the topic fits.  I am considering buying a Proxxon dividing head but it is for a different compound table to that which I have.  I have the KT 150 table and the head in question is for the Proxxon micro miller.  I am thinking of buying the head but using an aluminium adapter plate to be able to mount the head on my compound table.  Any comments?  Thanks. Brian

Hi Derek.  I will keep you posted.  The self-centering vices that have been referred to on the CNC PLus website look worth considering. Brian

Hi Derek.  I have sketched the proposed adapter that I have in mind and attach it here. The two questions I have are how to harden the surface of the adapter plate (also is that necessary?) and is aluminium strong enough?  I have received a vague reply on these questions from the local SA agent and may go direct to Proxxon for their comments.  Will keep you posted.  Brian

Brian it would depend on what Aluminium you make it out of. Comercial aluminium is soft. But get a decent grade of aircraft ally and it should hold up fine. We use a baseplate on all our CNC machines at work which is a series of tapped and Reamed holes to suit caphead and dowels for location. They are all made of aluminium and still going strong. James

Thanks James.  That is such an encouragement, and if I can find aircraft alli down south here I will certainly use it. Will keep you posted. Brian

Ahhh just looked at your location. If ur careful with it wven comercial will do it. Just its easily dented and scratches easily due to its softness

By the way, as a matter of interest, is there anyone out there who has actually used the Prox24264 dividing head? I would be grateful for comments on this tool.  Thanks. Brian
