Title: Hoegh Osaka (that nearly capsized in Solent)
Post by: NFMike on June 06, 2015, 10:23:11 pm
I doubt the official report is out yet but does anyone have any information about what (probably) caused the problem?
Just been searching and all I can find is news reports from around the time which are low on actual knowledge - or even that in some cases  %)

I can't find the item, but there was some conjecture on gcaptain.com that the ship commenced a turn before the crew had, the ballast trimmed for sea. The turn caught the ship with a stability problem as a result.
It was also suggested that getting the ship onto the sandbank was the best outcome, in that situation.
Wish I could find something more specific, too! - Tom
