As many of you will have seen my Model Slipway Maggie M is due for delivery this week , just wondering about a suitable radio control transmitter / receiver combo that would be suitable , i'll probably be installing a working radar and navigation lights and ideally would like these to be controlled from the Transmitter , is this possible ?
It comes with a 12v motor , will I need a speed controller aswell ?
Any suggestions welcome and thanks in advance

The planet/tamco 6ch should have all the features you need for not too much money.
-
The Saturn 6 has 4 axis channels and 2 switch channels so would suit your needs and is reasonably priced. :-))

My advice to all people buying new radio gear. Set a limit fir price, ask lots of questions and have a go on the different sets and most importantly try to future proof by buying a known reputable brand. If you want tx mixing or switches fir lights etc. Do the research first, and try to think about what you could do in the future with the tx. Ie more models so a model memory on the tx. Lipo conversion for tx batteries. Etc etc

Why on earth put lipos in a transmitter.?
The battery drain on modern gear is very
little so nimh packs are so much easier to
use.

FlySky FS-I6 is a very good setup, only works out about £38, and is capable of mixing channels as well.
6 channels
1500mtr + range
small unit
what more could one ask......oh yes and rx units are pretty cheap as well at £8.34 (Hobbyking) :-))

If you have Lipos in the Boat why not have a Lipo in the TX? one less charger required Also the lipo packs for my laser 6 & Terratop TXs were in fact cheaper and had a higher capacity than the NIMh equivalent.
There is much less voltage drop over time with Lipos as well so the need less charging

Don't think Maggie M is a candidate for lipos {-)

Why not ?

And how long will nimh be around now. Nicd are now banned. Nimh should be around for a few years but manufacturers are the ones now pushing lipo in tx. Smaller lightweight and higher amps means less charging.
-
Why use lipos and lots of ballast when lead acids
Will do both cost less and can be charged in situ
safely.

The cost element is getting debatable now with the ever falling costs of LiPos. However I do agree with you on the weight side of things.
Although in theory you could just ballast up with Lipos and have run times in Days lol

"NiCd are now banned".
Can somebody expand on this please. Can I expect the Battery Police to accost me at the Lakeside and confiscate my transmitter?

When did that happen?! :((

An EU directive in 2006 restricted the sale of Nicad batteries to some industrial & medical uses only. The disposal of Cadmium is also regulated. So whilst it is not illegal to own them, you can no longer buy them or dispose of them easily.

OK, found these ...

Did you read it through Martin , it's heavy going that legal way thy do it , I lost the will to carry on . That explains why I could not get a Nicad for some old 2way radios .

At the risk of returning to the original question.........
With the right radio having enough channels and the right boxes to plug into the receiver, all that you want is possible. Just a question of buying the correct parts and connecting them in the right places. And maybe programming the transmitter.
Whatever motor gets fitted, a speed control (ESC) will be needed.

Thanks for the info lads , taken on board , still lookin' ;)

Just a note which may interest some. All my scale boats that ran on 12v lead acid now run happily on 11.1 3s lipo's. I enjoy good running time with my Maggie M.
