Title: query on masking products

Greeting.


    Can you offer any advice on the best liquid masking material, that is easy to apply/remove and you experience with it please. Needs to be applied to acrylic and oversprayed by same. Looking for one that will be viable over a few days and still perform well. Thanks for any help/suggestions

I have used Humbrol Maskol in the past. However, I found it difficult to get a sharp edge even though I was masking indented windows. It peels off quite easily but I had to use pointed tweezers for the corners.

Is there a reason for using liquid masking?? could you apply a good tape and cut round the area??? I find liquid masks dont give a definite clear line they leave an uneven edge.

the reason for wanting to use liquid masking is 2 fold, 1 the area although relatively small is very intricate, and, 2 i have only one fully functioning hand, so tape is a challenge at the best of times with only a stub of a thumb(power saw very sharp) lol. thanks for repies so far

Sorry to hear about your thumb, try the Humbrol mascol, but you might need several coats, dont try the thick coat, as you say the area is intricate, try removing it with a pin, or/and put a length of cotton under the mascol so you have something to pull with, hope this helps

There is a better product than the Humbrol available from art supply shops, made by Windsor & Newton and simply called Masking Fluid. Its the same sort of liquid latex as Humbrol but a thinner liquid, so it may flow better than the Humbrol for you. I've found Humbrol to be on the thick side and difficult to get to flow into corners etc.

In BOTH products, do not leave in place for longer than 36 hours or it will be permanent! In practice I remove if its been on overnight and apply a fresh coat if necessary

This is the one we use on RC car bodies
Nice crisp edges when cut carefully with a scalpel
