Hi,
Started all the measuring out of the Sandown Class MCMV today, very tight fit with the overscale Voith Schnieder units but will have to see how I get on, some have used convential props/shafts but this has already flagged up clearnace issues with the VS and side of hull, otherwise off we go.
Ooh dont worry about the puppy training pads in the backround very good for wiping up spills of the modelling kind as well {-)

I'll tag along with your build if you don't mind

Morning rnli12......... ......may well be an idea to research the recommended or minimum spacing between Voith Schnieder units........one would not like it if they had to share the same water :embarrassed:.... keep us posted as it will be a learning curve for all :-)).............Derek

Hi,
Well the clearance inside the hull is a huge issue due to the units being oversized but in comparission the blade profile is only marginally larger from the correct scale profile, I could move the units further forward by about 20mm but the VS units outer housing are still going to impinge.
Thoughts of only using one unit are now on my mind similar to another collegue, will it be enough {:-{

Interesting, Could you not turn down the outer edge so that they will have a smaller diameter?
-
Hi,
Am thinking of that and the watertight integrity of the unit, i reckon it is doable with care.
At £200 a piece.....................
Keep the suggestions coming.

Rich,
I know when Paul Beckly of SIRMAR did the prototype he had to cut the outlet edges at 3 o'clock (hull centre line) square to fit them in , he later made the hull wider.

I don't know if you have an earlier hull or the later one.
With my HMS Penzance I opted for the newer voith unit and only fitted one . The model works well with one unit and bow thruster, move side ways with ease.
-
If you fit two there will be very little hull left between them, I'd fit just one I've seen T888's Penzance running trust me it works fine, but fit a bow thruster too. :-))

Flat spotting the rings would be a simple solution. :-))
The integrity of the hull between the units would be my concern. :o

Hi,
Does anyone have some good detailed shots of a Sandown class MCMV they could send please, any vessel I dont mind then I will look at which one to follow. Been a bit slow getting this one off the ground so will crack on over the summer.

Rich
