hi, hopefully someone can help me.
I have just finished building an Oseberg Viking ship by Amati and was hopeing somebody can tell me the best way to finish it of, should I paint it or stain it and what medium I should use for this.
Thanks

Satin stain always looks great but needs a very good sanding first!

Hi, thanks for the info, what colour would you suggest.

			-

Probably totally wrong, but what about a deep, rich red wood?

For viking the shields can be painted with a matt finish pain in simple designs, stripes, crosses, segments, using earthy colours - reds - yellow  umber, dull blues muddy greens. the figure head would probably have also been painted in similar colours, as these were the pigments available at the time (ex viking re-enactor here).

Thanks Grendal, what would you suggest with the hull and deck.

			-
Hull and deck would have been natural wood, maybe just finished with an oiled finish

Hi me again, would it be ok to use an acrylic Matt varnish.

Hi Steve, have you any pictures of your build? They have a lovely shape do longships.

				yes that should be ok
