Title: Portgarth tug - To keel or not to keel!
Post by: Thornej on March 23, 2016, 01:06:50 pm
Greetings friends,

I have a dilemma - should I fit a keel to the Portgarth tug I am building (slowly!). This is my first serious boat build.

There are differing schools of thought about this - and the effect on handling of the tug - and I continue to be confused. The plans indicate a keel, some say it is more maneuverable without, others say it's better with the keel for straight line steerage and less slippage.

Would anyone like to add their knowledge or experience to this topic? All would be appreciated.

Thanks
Cheers
Jeff
