Title: plastikote advice

I wonder if anyone can recommend a spray paint that is safe to seal over Plastikote so I can respray with Halfords or any other make of hard enamel paint.


I sprayed Plastikote on a new model RAF Tender over a week ago which still hasn't hardened. True it was touch dry after 45 min but a week later I could still leave finger prints in the gloss finish and any attempt to use light tack masking tape also marked the finish.


I have now managed to remove most of the paint with wet and dry and hope to seal it off with a filler primer that will not react.


Any help would be really appreciated,

Thanks Essex, Just ordered one.


Not sure why the plastikote would not harden maybe the clue is in the name. It certainly felt more like plastic than normal car paint when rubbing down with wet and dry.

Plasticote will harden just like ordinary paint. Maybe there was something already on the hull that it reacted with? Or you have applied it too thickly (yes it is a thick paint anyway) and the flashover time (surface dry time) has been too quick and sealed in the volatiles (diluents) Meaning instead of evaporating in a 24 hour period, they are leaking off slowly over a period that could take weeks.
