Title: Travelling to Turku? - Visit Forum Marinum, museum
Post by: Hande on April 18, 2016, 09:59:19 am
I visited this museum first time last autumn.

Among other maritime items - including full-size vessels - there is a great section with "shipyard models". Finland is traditionally a ship-building nation and I once worked in a major shipyard, Wärtsilä (today, not making ships anymore, maritime equipment - most notably diesel engines). These static models are beautiful. They were made one for the shipyard, maybe two for the client. There used to be dozens of them in the lobbies of Wärtsilä, and I played with the idea of equipping them with R/C. Spent a lot of my free time just admiring these models.

For example, the world-first roll-on-roll-off ferry, Nordia. I have travelled on her in the sixties between Turku, Åland, Norrtälje(Sweden) would be a lovely vessel to reproduce as a model?

And of course the ice breakers.
