Title: Have I learned nothing in 5 years ?
Post by: Bob K on May 20, 2016, 09:28:40 am
I have been back into building model boats for over five years no, and hugely enjoying it.
Something just happened that gave me cause to question if I have learned even the basics.
I have just cut out and replaced both prop shafts, one of which had seized.  Before removing the 20mm handed brass props I remembered to mark each of them so I could put them back in the correct orientation.

You may start laughing now:  With 5 years of picking up nautical knowledge and terminology I had somehow marked them "L" and "R", and the marking seems indelible - for all to see.  Doh !!!!

It doesn't matter how much you drink, you can still hear the guys laughing at you pond side. %)

A very salutary warning here.  Do not LICK your propellers as there may be a possibility that they have previously been inappropriately marked, followed by intense cleaning attempts with highly poisonous methylated spirits.  Another safety tip:  It is always a good idea to turn your transmitter off BEFORE licking them.

Turning off your Tx can result in Rx going into failsafe (often full astern)
thus tickling the tongue  %%

Not to worry Bob - check out new plastic props. I've just bought some and moulded into them they have L and R

Use the same pen to mark your big toe nails - could come in very useful as you get older... (do get them the right way round though.)  ok2

I have got socks one has L & the other R embroidered in.  Apparently they fit better if this message is adhered to.

Look on the bright side Bob, you can demonstrate that you are being organised :-) But please do avoid licking any part of your models or equipment for various reasons including undetected insanity.

I think Methanol is only poisonous in amounts of 10ml or more, so licking a trace residue might just give you a muzzy head.

Either way do avoid:O)

I have them with days of the week on, but they tend to get mixed up in the washing machine.

So when I go out, I never know whether its a church day or a market day.

At my time in life there is enough confusion without making more.

Jim.

Bob just tell people that the props came off a submarine, in which case it's the correct terminology.  %% %)

Once they are refitted, use the same pen to colour in the entire props - simples!
