Title: Myhobbystore Hulls
Post by: MGSweeney on August 14, 2016, 08:31:04 pm
Hi All,
I have a styrene Tyne Class hull which I bought from Myhobbystore, I hadn't really checked it out till yesterday and noticed that it is a fair bit different from the plans!
For example, there is a knuckle on the Transom which is not present on the plans or the boats!

Anyone else had any problems with hulls from myhobbystore?

I bought one of those and have completed quite a nice looking semi-scratch build Tyne class, 47-029.   I must admit I did not look too closely, but can`t remember finding any glaring faults.  Pete

I have contacted Sarik Vacform who make the hulls and i'm the first to ever comment on the hull. Waiting on MHS getting back to me.

I don't think you you will have any luck there I'm afraid. MHS will have inherited the mould from the original company which was made back in 1986 when the plan first appeared. Nobody in the company today will know anything about it. It is a Dave Metcalf design.

I have had a look at the October/November 1986 articles that covered the build and there is no knuckle as such on the transom although there is a comment that the hull needs to be cut down to deck edge level which shows up faintly on the moulding.

Maybe if you could post a photo things might be a bit clearer.

Please see the pics attached, granted they are not the best, you can see the knuckle in the transom.

That looks like a moulding error.

I also have noticed that the BOA should be 9", where as the hull is around 8.5", I know it's not much off a difference but still annoying.
