Hi All,
Has anyone got the plans for the Thornycroft MTB that's been around for a long time?
I'm refurbishing one for a friend and I'm trying to identify the colour scheme that may (or may not) have been included on the plans. The father who built it can't remember what he used but it was probably Humbrol from the 70's. The main colour used is almost a pale Khaki, with dark sea grey (or similar) stripes.
Is there any info on the plans?

If you're referring to the Vic Smeed plan, I've got a copy of that and it doesn't have any colour recommendation on it.

Age of the paint on the model may have caused a colour change.
MTBs and Gunboats usually wore "Western Approaches" colours in home waters. Any reference by John Lambert on Coastal Forces will be useful, if you don't want to buy them ask you're local library (If you've still got one) to order them in for you.

Thanks all but I think he (the builder) must have had a 'bright idea' {-)
I assume that it's from the Vic Smeed plan, if that's the one from many years ago, unless that itself had a predecessor?
I think what he's done is use a photo I've found of MTB 34 (A Vosper) and applied it to the Thornycroft.
I've attached a photo of the same boat so if anyone can tell me what the colours should be for that scheme , so at least I can sort out what he was aiming for, I'd be grateful. At the moment it looks like B30 and MS1.

Don't forget that camouflage white was an off white edging towards cream and pure white was kept for counter shading. B 15 looks to be a dark bluish grey. I found the second set of colour chips which includes B 15.

Will do when it's less of a WIP .
Decorator sat on it when painting the owners garage/shed! Hence the refurb.
As far as the colour is concerned, I've now done a bit more demolition and found the original colour, which was bluey grey but the varnish he put on has yellowed to give the khaki shade. Luckily, our local toyshop has started stocking the full range of Vallejo paints so I've borrowed a selection and will experiment with a colour match on the final varnish+paint tone >:-o

Hi,
I've recently acquired a Thornycroft MTB which, although very well modelled, has been poorly repainted at some point. The top coat is flaking away so my plan is to remove all the paint and start again.
Thornycroft MTBs don't seem to have been in service for long before being sold or reconfigured for other roles. I'd very much like to represent it in something approaching the correct colour scheme. There in lies the rub, any images I've found have been b&w or a mash-up of other camouflage schemes. This looks promising but is there a plan view of the colour scheme as well?
