Hi Guys,
Our club is looking at building a pusher boat, to rescue disabled models.
We don't want to go down a man sized boat route.
One thought is a catamaran style, using the space between the hulls to capture the disabled boat.
Another is a larger boat, with a catcher on the front.
What do other clubs use?
thanks

A frame from plastic pipe and foam insulation attached to a tug.
-
I have seen a similar arrangement attached to the front of a pusher/springer tug. As a pusher, it would only need the minimum of attachment.
-
We use an airboat (saves issues with weeds) towing a line attached to a reel. Take the line out, catch the boat, reel in line and steer airboat back to bank. We do use any boat if we are sure there is not a chance of getting it stuck in the weeds. Our latest version has a collection of nets on the line to make it easier to catch the stuck boat. Pictures next time I'm at the lake when its in use.
One issue which any method has is the power of the rescue vessel.

We have a similar arrangement to the one shown by Dougal99, only it is a 'W' shape & the rescue tug goes in the middle to push the frame, so in theory, can rescue 2 boats at the same time.
-
Chest waders for extreme rescues, a full size boat for difficult to locate sinking. Or any boat to push them.in normally!
-
Our rescue device is like the one show but S shaped. Rescue boat goes in one side and can scoop the boat to be rescued in the other.
We've also used it as an open day game - throw loads of plastic balls on the water and people compete to see how quickly they can scoop them all up.

SHG Marine do a Pusher Tug £70 approx. if you don't want to build one, fairly strong ABS I think, motor inc, with a pusher thing on the front and you could adapt some removable spread arms on it as well.We have a wooden barge type model boat a member built with these arms on and it works a treat. In the extreme,we have a flat bottomed full size rescue boat not far away which is deployed, but the rescuer wants to stay out ages on a warm day paddling round the lake...!!

This is Jaws our club rescue boat the jaws open and close by radio so can grab the boat
-
Our main method is a long pole operated from the pondside (usually through the reeds), failing that our chairman goes out in the paddle dinghy with a fellow member to act as retriever.
One of our members recently built a machine like 'Jaws' that works well except when the weeds really have a hold onto the stranded boat.
This Sunday, an airboat was used to recover a 6 foot long LST model under test, whose batteries had failed. Given the disparity in sizes, it did very well. The Recovery boat with Jaws attempted to recover a fishing boat but it had become too stranded, so a chap who happened to be testing his new inflatable dinghy rescued it along with a brand new Model Slipway Our Lass trawler model.
The long pole was not used.

this is our club's rescue boat, it has a schottel drive under the pilot house, so basically can be steered in any direction.

Thanks for the ideas and the pics.
given us some great ideas.

I like that one, as any boat can fulfill the role, not need for a dedicated boat. You could probably make an 'S' shape that can be assembled/disassembled lakeside, with push fit joints.

Although we have the "S" contraption, for a quick rescue we use a ball-valve float on a cord.
Cheap, simple and small enough to keep in the car.
Attach to a tug etc and then sail right round the casualty a couple of times and once the cord pulls tight you can just tow it in.
No good on flat bottomed, shallow draft models though.

I know this is an old topic .... but any new ideas out there?
( We use a Klunk or a SteamboatPhil at Wicksteed! ) ok2
Found this on Facebook, seems a really simple idea!
Looks like a ARFT swamp / airboat, just 'nailed' to some plastic pipe!!!
