(ex) light boat?
-
Wreck floats and buoys used to be green I think.
Ned
-
Nope, something else! :-)
-
Radio luxenburgh - or the boat in Gloucester :D
-
Looks like a Castle Class Corvette.
Used for weather ships in 50s & 60s
Ned
-
It's made from the corvette kit by Revel I think, and it seems to be more of a fire boat lookalike.
-
Correct, Revell Corvette and built as a sort of Lightship..... but something else..... ok2
-
Is it sort of describing itself....?
Colin
-
It is very similar (ish ) to the old Nantucket light ship
-
radio caroline?
-
Its a lightship, a floating lighthouse, several old corvettes were converted for this use.

Isn't it one that you built earlier Martin? Not a real ship though.

..... is the right Answer!!!!
It popped up on fleaBay at the weekend, I bid & won her back..... she used to be called Fastelight.
I built it about 20 years ago and was talked in to selling her but regretted it straight away.
I always hoped / suspected it would surface again but I was surprised to see it seems to look in good shape.
I will refurbish it and probably turn it into a shelf queen.... that water line look very dodgy!

Well it arrived..... but totally smashed to pieces!
I can't work out if I am more angry than upset.... <:(
-
:o :o :o Surely that must qualify for a refund as "goods not as described"
-
I'd be annoyed at that packaging job. The bloke obviously didn't give a crap about it arriving in any useful state.
-
Absolutely disgraceful, if the person selling it had any decency they'll refund your money >:-o
Is she salvageable?
-
martin i am sorry to see this and can sympathise with how you feel as this happened to me.
with a slipway conserver. >>:-( that i have still not rebuilt as every time i look at it i get very annoyed.
i do hope you can get a refund or the boat is salvageable.
regards
mick

I had the same thing with a Type 42 Destroyer.
I ended up starting the repair then giving her away.
I have been there too.

Seemingly genuine apologies offered as well as full refund and he said 'keep the boat'.
..... OK, lets see what I can rebuild out of this with the use of my mate's 3D printer!!!
-
Just a total lack of care in packaging it up.
Absolutely disgusting and lazy on his part.
Jim.

That's an acceptable outcome - see what you can rebuild or remake.

That's a bit harsh. I suspect most people simply don't understand the dynamics of objects inside boxes. (There was some discussion on here about this a while back.) Manufacturers packaging is usually preformed to provide appropriate protection and restraint, but even if you know what is needed it can be hard to achieve with diy materials. Some of it is also down to luck in so far as whether the box gets handled fairly well or suffers the throwing to the other side of the room fate.

I don't think so......if you are selling an item, it is your responsibility you wrap it up for every known problem. It is your job to lessen the eventualities to an absolute minimum, and from looking at the minimal packaging agents within the box as shown, that just wasn't the case.
I participated in sending 4 tugboats to 4 different buyers earlier this year, and we packed them so well that even by MYhermes standards of delivery and handling, NOT ONE was damaged in any way whatsoever. so it can be done with care and method.

Fair play to the Seller if they've given a full refund for such extensive damage , but personally I tend to agree with BFMSP in that I consider the packaging to be quite inadequate because a mere layer of bubble wrap will not prevent a kilo or more of a model boat from rattling around inside a cardboard box, no matter how stout that may be. I have posted many balsa built model aircraft of varying sizes and weights and they have all reached their destination undamaged by using readily available DIY materials such as polystyrene foam/cardboard/canned foam to make protective ''cradles'' around the item and to restrain it in the box.
However none of us can do anything about damage to the outer container by bad handling, but that can be proven against the carrier and claimed for.
-
What a damn shame:O( That was a lovely model. I wish you well with rebuilding it.

I agree, but I also agree with Plague, some people are bit clueless when it comes to packaging. I would guess that the sender is somewhat wiser, as well as out of pocket, now.
-
Truly tragic, but the damage is done and now I am hoping, Martin, that you elect to restore her to her former glory! I for one would diligently follow your progress.

There another topic running on here about is 3D modelling real modelling.... we'll see! O0

As said, that is a real shame, particularly as you built it.
