Title: Marten, Howes & Baylis Steam-Dinghy "Henry"
Post by: livesteam on October 24, 2016, 11:05:41 am
Hello!

Has anyone any experiences with MHBs beautiful steam-dinghy "Henry"? I consider optaining one, but can find very little information besides on MHB website. I know the engines that are being suggested very well, so that would be a perfect fit for me. but what about the kit? Thanks!

Best regards from Switzerland, Kaspar

Thanks Martin!
I am looking for some builders experiences with the kit. It is not a bargain and I am just not sure if it's worth the money. I know about the quality of former MHB kits, but that one seems to be rather simple but still very expensive.
Cheers!

Kaspar

I've seen a number of their latest kits and they are superb, probably better than the older ones. True they are very expensive but quality does not come cheap does it? You will get an even better deal if your paying in Swiss Francs as well.

Bonjour,
Another beautiful example of MHB kit : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_burrOo9WxY
And I confirm, I have to pay to get quality in my passion.

Thanks Bernhard, that helps!

Merci Raphael!  "Der Seekadett" has always been a kit of my dreams... But then it also was a bit out of my league. And now, not available anymore :-( but maybe "Henry"! I made a request at MHB yesterday.

Bonjour Livesteam,

I do not know if MH&B goes on existing but I met Martin Baylis during the Atlantica Steam 2016 event and saw his wonderful false triple expansion steam plant :

That is one hell of a price for a small model kit, plus steam plant. Are the gold plated. <:(

Bonjour Jim,

There is no more steam manufacturers, in France, JMC and Anton just survive. There is no market so any order is treated as individual, no mass effect ==> if you want something, it is almost unique ==> very expensive... {:-{

I found in China (Microcosm) a steam plant which values 1/2 common prices : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO16806-3pM

That realy is a pitty and I sincerely hope the last few manufacturers will survive. I support them :-) There is a very good retailer for Anton-engines in Switzerland www.kramer-steam.ch even a bit more expensive but with very good support.

Back to main topic: I got a very kind Email from Brian Marten regarding my request for Henry. They produce Kit and Plants only on order. I am going to think about it!
