Hi Guys
Does anyone own or owned a aerokits sea commander ?
Just got one. Hull & deck ect very sound. Motor (old johnson) radio sp/con well shot.
Is it a semi planeing like huntsman ect ? if so would a graupner 700 turbo (got spare one)
Its fitted with a 35 mm 3 blade prop.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Just out of interest that is only 34" isn't it?? its just that it looks longer like the sea queen

Yes sorry about that It just looks big , You could try the 700 but it may be a bit hungry. try and keep it light, as they are not a light boat to start with .It was the first boat I built In the Early sixties when they where all ic powered I had an ED racer in it and it wasn't that fast. just Oliy Try and use nicads that will help you may have to go a bit bigger with the prop as well , see if you can borrow a few to try then buy what works the best

Got a ripmax speed 600 better ? Also got x2 7.2, 8.4 & 9.6 packs left over from my fast leccy boats.
Is it a semi planeing hull or displacement ?
Thanks
-
A Sea Commander will pop itself on the plane far easier and quicker than any of the Fairey cruisers, the shallow vee and the flat sections aft see to that. It is a hard-chine planing hull, pure and simple. The Faireys are also hard-chine planing hulls, not semi-planing (or semi-displacement), they simply have much deeper vee sections and hence take longer to flatten out on the plane.Your new boat will not need much power to plane, as it will be planing at a relatively slow speed.

Thanks will experiment with motors & props.
Ill start with the 700 with 3000 9.6 pack & take it from there.
Thanks again

Me Again
Been busy stripped out all old radio gear , motor etc fitted twentieth century gear !
Two questions
Where can i run r.x ant wire so it does not show to much ? (didnt matter with my f.e boats)
Also what scale fittings would suit ? (a few bits missing or damaged)
Hope someone can help.
All of you on here have given me very good advice so far.
Thanks
John

Run it around the top of the cabin ,as you have done FE there is no need to tell you about what to keep it away from you could also run the tail of the ant up the centre part of the screen. Ah just noticed you don't have one yet, anyway some sea comanders have a mast at the join of the screen only about 3" long. Ill find a picture.

Down the lake this morning. Went VERY well poped on the plane no touble.
No leaks turned well 15 min run time. It ran better on 8.4 4300 than 9.6 3000 (9.6 motor Viper 25 e.s.c 35 mm 2 bl prop) Any ideas ?
Runs a bit warm (needs a cooling coil)
Has anyone got a picture of a sea commander with all the fittings in place?
As you can see mine has a few missing. i want to get her back to her former glory.

Why dont you try a 55mm prop it should go a lot better

Goes well much faster than scale just a bit worryed about amp draw (cooked far to many e.s.c !)
What about a 45 3 bl & cooling coil ? bat paks still a mystery though 8.4 better than 9.6.
-
waste of time using a 3 blader go 2 and you will be fine just to give you an idea of what these esc will take I use a 15amp viper on my sea queen using a 55mm prop on a mfa850 motor with no probs so you will be allright

what you want to do with that is Rip every thing out and put a 46 nitro in it and you will have more than enough fun out of it...al
-
Thanks but cant use i.c at lake!
-
yes thats the Way alot of waters have gone now adays, thats 700 bb should do the trick if you run it on 14 cells.....Alan
-
To make it run cooler you may find a smaller prop may help, less load on motor it will prob not loose a lot of speed eather as the prop will rev a little more, as for fittings they will be very similar to the sea queen (but not size) .
