Title: Hello from Freezing Wakefield.
Post by: Easy Peasie on November 28, 2016, 08:46:37 pm
Hi all

Hello from Wakefield.
Took my oldest daughter (10) to Leeds Model Shop and we ended up with an Aeronaut Jenny and a multitude of other things. We're both looking forward to making a start. We've done plenty of internet homework, but will no doubt have plenty of questions during the build, which hopefully someone will be able to answer.
We will keep you up to date with our build

Wakey boy and girl! That is great to hear that your daughter is interested, not just in operating, but in making as well.

Welcome to the forum, and like others have said before, the members here are very generous in sharing their collected knowledge. There are some really really talented modellers here and you will learn so much looking at all the pages and topics. It is like an online manual.

Good luck with your build and dont be shy of putting a blog up showing how it is going.

Hello Andy from another WF postcode.

If you want to come along to see boats at work in the spring/summer have a look at our events calendar on the website the link to which is at the foot of this post.

You would both be welcome at any of our events and there is always a wealth of knowledge to tap into.  We will even lend you a boat to have a go if yours is not finished by then.

Leeds model shop?

Do they still exist?

are they the same people that used to be on Merrion street (that would be 50 years ago though)

and there is, or was, a model shop o one of the roads from WF out to the M1 - are they still there?

The Leeds model shop is in Crossgates, which I suppose is in East Leeds. Quite close to Temple Newsam. I don't know if they were in theMerrion centre before.
The model shop in Wakefield which was on Dewsbury Road going out to jct 40 of the M1 sadly closed about 4 years ago.

HI guys the model shop in Merrion Street closed many years ago and was pulled down for a new office block. The Cross gates shop had no connection with Merrion Street. Model Shop Cross Gates   is the only one left in Leeds all the others have gone.

Folks
Thanks for that  (sort of - you know what I mean)

I've been in Leeds since Merrion street went.  Spent a lot of time, and money, in that shop.  One of the blokes in it went there from the Hobbies? shop that was in County Arcade.

and Crossgates - beside the dual carriageway - never had a chance to stop.

But the place on Dewsbury Road gone?  so recently - but then I've been here in Northumberland for the last decade, so no running around so far south.

Model Shops - a dying breed.   So sad.
