Hi, was looking for some advice on the Aeronaut Queen kit build. I am due to start the build in the next week and am looking for advice on waterproofing the Hull. I would like to maintain the mahogany finish and am planning not to paint the lower section of the Hull.
My question is will varnish/ lacquer suffice as a waterproof agent for the outside and would thinned dope work on the inside. Any advice greatly welcomed

Hi KOI
I have had the same dilemma a few weeks ago,
follow the link to read the advice I was given
http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,56433.0.html
Here's the result so far
good luck with the build, my main advice is to wipe up any glue of any wood you want to varnish, although you probably know that

Hi Martin/ Spud, thanks for coming back and the advice.
I now think I will below waterline go for white, varnish the mahogany and use epoxy for inside.
few more questions if I can-
1. suggestions on process for white below the waterline
2. Varnish recommendations, I see quite a few people use International
3. Epoxy inside to seal, do people suggest Z poxy, or can I just use a cheap thinned epoxy to seal inside
Many thanks for any advice

I've just finished one of these for a fellow member of the Swindon model boat and engineering club.
A super kit which goes together with the minimum of problems and built in three weeks of afternoons. in the shed
Interior waterproofed with two part resin, exterior finished with five coats of high quality satin varnish... the owner feels it looks more in scale than a very high gloss finish.
Old English white below the water line with a fine ,pale green line separating the white from the mahogany.
Seats and roof finished in old English white
An excellent kit and smart looking boat
Kind regards
