During a Portsmouth Harbour cruise today I noticed that HMS Dragon was sporting some fancy bow decoration. Is this the start of a trend? If so then heaven help HMS Prince of Wales!

It's just the beginning of the Governments' campaign to help fund the Navy. They start painting the sponsor's name down the side of the ship next week.
-
HMS Dragon has had that motif on since launch in nov 08.

Scalewarship even sell the transfer for it!!

I hadn't noticed it previously, it is quite striking really. Must cost a bit to maintain.

I believe it was painted out briefly but there was a poll or similar and it was put back on. She was in Portland last weekend and due back with us on Friday, two tugs required, that'll be half my day taken up driving one of the tugs
-
I don't think it's paint I'm 90% sure it's a vinyl transfer
I am sure the yard did it for the launch as a bit of PR fun and it was removed briefly but
Quickly reinstated

love it!!!!.
that will cause consternation next time she comes up against a rusky carrier, belching smoke.
could we not have fire breathing from the dragons mouth. that would really scare the poo out of Putin.

As Jonesy would say - Puts the wind up the Chinese captain mainwarring
-
Shame it is not a Golden Dragon of Wessex.
-
The ships staff had to raise the cash for it to be redone as the mod weren't paying for it.
-
I believe you can even get a 1:700 scale model of HMS Dragon with the painted dragon by the manufacturer Dragon! {-)
-
I do believe its a welsh dragon at that. ;)
