hi guys, I've managed to retrieve my boats from a very disgruntled ex >>:-( however in the 8 months that has taken my boats have not been very well cared for. Amongst a load of repairs to super structures, props and bent rudders I've discovered that two of my receivers and speed controllers have died <:( <:( I need to find some new ones. I have a dx6i but no receivers to work with it.... where and what is the best to buy at the moment. Also (I know it's asking a lot %) but...) where and what are the best speed controllers to get at the moment? Thank you!

Orange or Lemon RXs are very competitively priced.

You can get genuine original Spektrum two channel DSMX recievers for less then £20.00. Bear in mind though that the next generation of Spektrum 2.4 radios are now only compatible with DSM2 recievers. DSM2 recievers will also work with your Dx6i but are usually that bit more expensive. So if you want to think ahead go with DSM2 but if you want the cheapest possible go with DSMX.
Mtroniks do a comprehensive range of dedicated marine specific fully sealed and waterproof speed controllers which are very good value and are supported by very responsive sales and service back up.

But if you have, or can find compatible receivers, the old DSM2 equipment is not oulawed.
If it is a really old, or original Spektrum DX6i, then you may need to find the original DSM1 receivers.(AR6000/BR6000)
What is the numbers of your old, dead receivers?

The old orange and lemon RX's are
DSM 2
The first Transmitters on DSMX were
Backwards compatible.
The later ones are not.
Send your Tx back for service and it
will come back without the DSM2 option.

Wow! thanks for the replies chaps! my dx6i is only about 2 years old so I'm not sure which software is/isn't in it. the old receiver is stamped with fcc id: brwdasrx11 and te407x its a 6 ch receiver..... I confess to being very unread about the way this system works and what I should be looking for. currently when its plugged in with power it has a faint orange light on. it doesn't seem to respond to the handset and also it doesn't seem to do anything with the bind plug in. I'm not sure if this is my own stupidity or if it has died... I'm assuming the latter as the speed controllers that were plugged in to that unit have also snuffed it. (when I mess around with a cheep two channel unit the servos respond but not the speed units. I have spent a bit of time playing mix and match but to no joy!)
Wheres the best place to read up on the new laws and how to understand the difference between DSM2 and DSMX?

orange RX DSMX from hobbyking, about £13 for 6 channels. i've used them for several years. :-))

I have this week bought two Spektrum 6 channel dsmx AR600 from foxbuying online
Over $30 is post free so I bought two for £36 delivered. i.e. £18 each
A Spektrum DX6 second generation is currently £99.99 delivered on eBay which is way under shop price

Lemon RX DSM2/DSMX £11.00 if you look around. My Spektrum DX6 packed up and went for a service and came back unable to communicate with the DSM2s so changed everything to DSMX using Orange at the time, but have used a few Lemon Rxs over the years. No complaints with either.

A two year old DX6i should support DSM2 and DSMX.
The chip had space for only two software versions.
A compatible receiver should bind quickly once the bind plug and power are applied and
the transmitter switched on in bind mode.
