Title: Travelling with models
Post by: Dubmatix on March 23, 2017, 09:07:06 pm
I'm sure i'm not the only one to consider taking a small boat away on a trip to while away an evening or two.

I am thinking of taking one on a trip but will be flying back (internal flight within the UK).   Is this even possible with LIPOs? My plan at this time of year would be doing a bit of flatting and filling some small dings in the hull so i could leave it without rc gear in it, and pack it in my hold luggage.   But if i want to do similar later on when the evenings are lighter and sailing is an option, do airlines mind rc batteries? (i have NiMHs too i could take those instead).

Any tips or advice would be most useful!

Also, any clubs near Dumbarton?

Cheers

John

Get in touch with your preferred airline and explain to them what you are thinking of doing. That laptops etc are allowed on aircraft ( in hold luggage currently) and many of these use Lithium Ion batteries. Use terms that will help you explain what you are planning to carry, i'e, like a lap top battery, as the airline staff can readily comprehend this.

I am not suggesting that airline staff are daft, but model boats to many will either be sailing ships (why would those need batteries?) or speedboats (don't they have petrol engines?)

Have a good time away:O)

If it is internal to UK.
I would send the boat ahead, to my hotel, using courier. It would probably work out cheaper, as well as a lot less hassle.
