Title: Dortmund in Pictures
Post by: Tug Fanatic on April 12, 2017, 09:00:00 am

I have already posted 20 Truck & Machinery pictures here:

http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,57811.msg602701/topicseen.html#msg602701 (http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,57811.msg602701/topicseen.html#msg602701)

Here are some more including other sections of the show.

The red triplane is the largest model that I have seen fly in an indoor venue. Note the incredible construction of the model below it. I was talking to the pilot of a similar model and he told me that the complete model of about 1m span weighed 39.7 grammes - yes 1.3ozs! He also said that he could not really fly his normal competition schedule particularly well as the hall was too windy. Some modellers really are on the extreme edge.

This was the most detailed Springer that I have ever seen. Just shows what can be done with humble beginnings.

Some more boats.

I am not sure why we don't all use the mounts, couplings, shafts in the first picture. A lot of models used them and they are just so simple & foolproof. They are also no more expensive than the separate bits.

A couple more trucks. They had an enormous hillside to shift snow!

Some more aircraft. I just loved the wing shape of the vintage glider.

Finally a couple of railway photos. Some of the gauge 1 models were simply fantastic - in fact they were nearly all fantastic.

My overall comment is that German modelling is expensive but - and it is a big but - the quality easily justifies the price if you can afford it.

Great pics and very jealous of the opportunity to see all those models in real life and up close.

I found this site that sells those shafts after a quick search using the German text in the pics. They have some great stuff there.

I have used these shafts and they work extremely well with a solid coupling and brushless motor. I have had to order mine from HongKong as none of the usual UK sources seem to stock them. Well worth the effort.

Sorry, no. Got them about 12 months ago off eBay but not listed any more.

Dave.
