:-)) Hello Fellow Members
This is really just a very quick question,I have always loved the idea of integrated sound systems? I know they are not always popular, but I am hoping to buy one of the "New Castle" Carson Tugs
and I really would like sound.Other than the fully programmable Graupner above are their any other very similar sound systems available+
Many thanks In Advance
Steve :-)) :-)

I think the Graupner one you are referring to ( http://www.westbourne-model.co.uk/acatalog/Graupner_Programmable_sound_module-2041-ext.html (http://www.westbourne-model.co.uk/acatalog/Graupner_Programmable_sound_module-2041-ext.html))
was made by these guys https://www.beier-electronic.de/modellbau/produkte/usm-rc-2/usm-rc-2.php?sprache=gb (https://www.beier-electronic.de/modellbau/produkte/usm-rc-2/usm-rc-2.php?sprache=gb)
They have added a fair bit of functionality to it....Google USM RC2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tpYHtsocFE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tpYHtsocFE)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7Q-7JpZcRQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7Q-7JpZcRQ)
Note - it's not just for cars......
And this one shows how it can play more than 2 sounds all at the same time inc JukeBox functionality
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBh6cfg4IvA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBh6cfg4IvA)
And an idea of the sound quality - the PC App is being used to trigger the sounds on the board for setup purposes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JXSgb0gwBc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JXSgb0gwBc)
And you can use it to switch lights on / off - trigger automated sequences, play random sounds ( seagulls etc)
Unless you have played with one for a while it's difficult to appreciate how clever the software is and what functionality is provides for a modeller - but here is a summary
- Universal module to control sound-, light- and servo functions
- Suitable for all types of commercial remote controls
- Individually programmable
- With 170 ready to use sound projects and over 700 sound files
- Speed-dependent engine and movement sounds
- Powerful built-in amplifier for optimal sound quality
- 12 switching outputs for LEDs, lamps, relays, etc.
- Free programmable light and sound sequences
- 2 programmable servo outputs
- Easy transfer of settings with micro SD card
- Easy updating of Sound-Teacher and firmware
- Extension accessories available

Sounds like (excuse pun)
you will be paying more for the sound
unit than the tug. :embarrassed:

C-3PO & Netleyned
A big thank you for your replies, very much appreciated.
normally I think I would be in almost total agreement with you, the sound system especially if you include the amp is expensive %% but as I only ever intend to own the one boat which will easily out live me, then I think the extra for the sound plus lighting and smoke to me at least is worth it.
Ideally as I am unable to do much of the work myself, I could do with someone to take delivery of the boat and fit and programme the sound unit for me,look guys its a very long story, so I beg your indulgence,Their are very good reasons why I am trying to do this!which is not the ideal route in normal circumstances i concur.
If their are any Suitable/knowledgeable,individual or company who can carry out the work please PM or mail me.
Many thanks Steve :-)) :-))

:-)) Good day timgarrod
Many thanks for your reply, much appreciated,I am getting the feeling after some intense searching that the GRAUPNER System is the best out there and gives me something to seriously consider for the tug.

Hi all I use the Benedini sound system. I use it for my Cars, Tanks, and Boats.

Hi Andy,
Welcome to Modelboatmayhem. :-)) We have communicated in the past. I'm the guy that likes your R/C switches. I think they are great. You can advertise them on here if you're still making them as I'm sure they will go down a storm.
All the best

:-) Hello
I was just wondering having read your reply re the Benedini sound system a system I know works well in RC Tanks.
Does it also work well in steam era tugs though and is it fully programmable?
it got me thinking maybe their is another Sound system(integrated for boats) which is less involved and complex as the graupner, I suspect not, but no harm in asking
cheers Steve
-
I believe Graunper rebranded them for their use and put the price up. {-)
I went though all the effect from the disc when having a play and the stream one sounded brill.

Hi Again
Must admit the Graupner system sounds good, very good.
But i sort of get the jitters with all the programming stuff %% we cant all be tech brains...how hard or otherwise is it to set up the system say for the New Castle tug.
many thanks
all the best Steve :-)) :-))

Hi Steve,
to be honest, it took me a bit to learn how to program it properly. But it soon made sence after watching these video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQwQ2rbUE6E (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQwQ2rbUE6E)
Its in german but there english subtiles if you press the CC button under the video.
if you use the CD, you can just upload the premade ones,
not sure if you seen all the effect https://www.beier-electronic.de/modellbau/produkte/usm-rc-2/usm-rc-2.php?sprache=gb (https://www.beier-electronic.de/modellbau/produkte/usm-rc-2/usm-rc-2.php?sprache=gb) near the bottom of the page.

Big Thumbs up!
Many thanks, must admit I soon go in to panic mode with anything to do with technology and especially electronics,so thank you I have already watched number 1 & 2 of the You Tube tutorials and the first one was easy enough number 2 a bit harder, and I have now short-cutted 6 x in total
is it just the first 6 Tutorials that I require?
Once again many thanks

I use these for planes, and have one about to arrive soon for a boat, it will be a twin merlin sound for my Aerokits fireboat. If you can hang on, Ill post up the sound when its fitted, but might take a few weeks to arrive and get installed
there are some videos on the website

Good day red181 & gra2
Firstly a very big thanks for the additional information and http://www.mrrcsound.com/main (http://www.mrrcsound.com/main)-Looks very interesting, and look forward to hearing a sample of it later. likewise I will be looking forward to checking out Model Sounds Shockwave 2 sound module.really do appreciate your help,
wonder if anyone as heard all the available programmable sound options? and which one if any, really stands out? Just a thought
all the best Steve :-) :-))

Hi Steve,
the Beier sound module is great, expensive and requires a fair bit of programming. A far easier set up is the sound module from Harbor Models. it comes ready to install, plays the engine sound and a horn without one sound interrupting the other. On Harbor Models website you can listen to which engine sound suits your model best, order that version and when you receive it just plug it in and that's it.
There is also a sound module avialable from Mtronics. It comes with a speaker. I have installed it in my Portgarth tug but wished I had gone for the Harbor Models unit instead - the large diesel sound is much better (in my opionion).
Whatever you decide to buy - a model with sounds is MUCH more interesting than a model lacking this feature. I think ;-)

:-)) Gud Dagen Claes, Fra Norge.
I really thank you for your most helpful reply,i have not really checked out the harbour models or the mtronics sound modules.
I would like synchronized sound connected to the speed of the tug e.t.c. if at all possible
I will go and have a good look at Harbour models page
all the best Steve :-)) :-))
-
:-)) Hi Claes
I have now mailed Harbour models and received a reply
I have looked at the sound module and I suppose it to be very good.I have a question? how much difference is their between the Beier & THE HARBOUR MODELS Sound systems
by this I mean quality of the recordings and how they sound in say a Tug is it a big difference,if it is a close run thing then I think maybe the Harbour models but if the Beier is as good as folk have being saying then just maybe I will opt for the Beier.
I am still keen to find someone to take on the building/Upgrading on one of the more inexpensive tugs and upgrade with sound, smoke, lighting, electronics e.t.c.
so any suggestions appreciated.I am not quite ready to place the commission? but at least I can put the plans in place.
I did see a very interesting upgrade of a Southampton tugs on facebook/youtube,by a German guy Pierre Dippel.very impressive additions and upgrades,now something like that would be dreamland for me. :}
all the best Steve :-)) :-))

:-)) :-)) Good Day Tim
Really good to hear from you again, and many thanks for the links to the You Tube Videos! Wow its difficult not to be impressed by the Beier Unit,I am so very impressed, maybe it is worth the difference in cost to go for the Beier Unit.I was especially impressed by the Happy Hunter Video not just the sound but the other functions to all very exciting for the future.
Regards Steve :-)) :-) :-)) :-) :-))

Hi Steve,
one thing to consider when planning your model is that you must have a radio system that can handle the functions you want to include. Motor forward/ backwards, rudder left/right (or backboard/starboard) and sound on/off can easily be handled with a inexpensive four channel radio. If you however want additional functions such as working radar, deck lights, navigation lights, lights in the deck- and/or wheelhouse, anchor handling etc etc you need a more expensive set-up.
In my diesel tug, based on a kit (Portgarth) from MMM in the UK I have all of the above functions plus some more and I have a radio with 12 channels and use them all.
Another thing to keep in mind: with many functions in the model you are likely to need some sort of power distribution board to provide the right voltage to the various "gadgets". As example the radar is running on 3 V and the main motors on 12 V so I have a board from which I get 3V, 5V, 6V and 12 V.
I think it might be rather tricky to add several functions to a Carson model - aren't they rather prefabricated and "ready to run"?
So unless you find someone to build your model I suggest you check out sites like e-bay, the buy/sell part of the Modelboatmayhem etc and see if you can buy a model that already contains the functions you want.
Claes

:-)) Good Day Claes
Good to hear from you again.I appreciate very much your input, which is most helpful
To answer your points Yes I would very much like as many functions as possible,Am aware I need a transmitter with plenty of channels.and for sure I need someone with the skills to build it for me.
I think you are quite correct about the CARSON New-Castle Tug re room inside.
As I mentioned earlier Pierre Dippel upgraded a Southampton Tug with a lot of wonderful functions, I am trying to contact him for more information on his great tug.
I am not quite ready to buy Claes, but should be in a month or two am just trying to put things in place at the moment.
If you or anyone else on mayhem know of someone with the know how, and skills to undertake the project then please pass on my details or PM me with details and I will contact them.
I have yet to see a tug boat on mayhem that fits the bill, but I keep looking.
all the best Steve :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

Steve,
I have received the sound unit from mrrcsound for my Crashtender, so will be installing very soon, Ill let you know how it gets on
Paul
-
:-)) Good day Paul
So good to hear from you, as things seem to have gone cold.I will look forward very much to hearing how the new sound unit functions.
I have just visited the site, sounds good, excuse the pun,so very interested how it compares the BAIER UNIT?
It would be great to nail down which of the units suggested to date comes out on top both sound wise and value for money?
As I have no chance to listen on the boating lake I rely mainly on feedback so please keep your views and opinions coming
Best wishes Steve :-) :-)) :-)) :-))
