My main hobby is flying RC planes and you might find my latest one interesting. This is a Wot 4 Extreme, the largest of a range of models based on the Wot 4 by Chris Foss. This is normally powered by a petrol engine but I have fitted mine with a Wren 50i Turbo prop. The model has a wing span of 84 inches and weighs around 10Kg without fuel. While it has not been flown yet it has been down to the field for some engine runs.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ViPm3927Q0
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ViPm3927Q0)This is turning a 22 x 12 wooden prop at a maximum of 2500 rpm although the top revs on the turbine have been turned down from 195000 to 180000 to allow the gears to bed in. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ViPm3927Q0)The turbo prop is a 2 shaft design with a gas turbine driving a free turbine geared down to the propeller drive. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ViPm3927Q0) The fuel is paraffin with 5% oil mixture and the model has a 1.5 litre fuel tank which should give 10 minutes flight time.
