Title: Don't believe everything you see...

This photo has been causing controversy on an offshore site group that I'm in. It does look rather impressive and of course shows how dangerous the sea can be.

However the reality is somewhat different and looks more mediocre, although the weather is still rough. It goes to show what can be manipulated in Photoshop

Not sure why it's controversial, the top one stinks of photoshop and is amateur at best, people never seem to get the haze and hues right on the imported image

:-)....but so many people are so naive ...

I understand we see deck railings [from another structure?] in the first image.....however must admit I have never seen a tug sit on its stern >>:-( ...nor waves as depicted in the first image...and clearly the wave formation in the second image is not responsible for the heave of the tug

Does the near horizontal hand rail and yellow structure in the first image suggest as being a fixture [Platform?]

Is either image factual?.............  Derek

The first image is obviously fake but the second one is either much better done or real. I don't know which & that is so sad as it makes me sceptical of the truth of so many pictures. Photoshop is a nightmare when used to deceive as it throws so much doubt on all images.

I wonder why people have to photoshop in the first place!

Second one is real, the platform is a storage platform not a production platform for oil. The ship is on standby duty so just sails around in circles 'in case!' The controversy was that somebody superimposed and changed the colouration of the water while at the same time including another photo of the corner of a platform to make the photo 'look better' There is no way you can make the North Sea look anything other than grey and drab during winter.
