Title: Dumas Brooklyn Tug
Post by: Zil on September 01, 2017, 10:23:04 am
My tug has a 3" prop, 12 volt Dumas motor, speed controller, viper  marine 20 - 6-12 volt output. I need to take the voltage down to 6 volt for rudder servo , what regulator would be best, I have heard of an outlander from Sussex Model Centre , how do I wire it up. And could a sail servo be used for the rudder ??

Hi Zil, welcome to Mayhem.
I've just checked the specifications for the Viper esc and it comes with a BEC to provide a lower voltage (probably 4.8V ) for the receiver and servos. You shouldn't need a regulator. You would be better with a normal servo for rudder than a sail servo. Use a high torque servo to give you better power to the rudder but no need for a 6V supply just the normal supply from the BEC in the speed controller.

thanks for reply I just wondered about servo as they are 4to6volt and my battery is 12volt and I didn't want
It to burn out in the middle of a pond.  Hastings is where I live a long way from shore ham .

Hi Zil.

Welcome to the Forum.

I have moved your reply back into this post to keep them all together.

The answer to your question is it takes the voltage supply from the receiver, which is around 5 volts or so.

Cheers
