Hi All,
Until now I 've been sending out emails that has been a long and torturous manual task!
Can I ask a few of you guys to register with this website - http://www.watchthatpage.com/
It's a website that monitor a webpage that you choose and send you an email when it changes.
Please set the page to monitor as:- http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/
( Maybe it would be an idea not to use your main email address in case it a harvesting site but it seems to work for me! )
I'll change the Model Boat Mayhem home page every other day or so for the next week to see if it works for you.
Let me know.
Many thanks,
Martin.

Hi Martin - Not sure what I'm doing ??? but I've registered with said site. When I tried to copy and paste the page to monitor into the blank space, it objected (complete with http// etc) I then tried just the bare www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk and it appeared to accept that as it is now listed below the boxes. Just have to wait and see if 'owt 'appens I suppose

Martin,
I also registered and will inform you of what and when.............

Martin tried but as at work. the security system has blocked it maybe just my works ???? unless theres more to thesite ??
-
I have registered using a rarely used Googlemail address.
I set the page to track as www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk as "Top Level" - only choice so hat was easy!
Not sure if I need to set any "folder " below that.
Will report if any action!

Interesting
I received this message:
"This message is sent to you from www.watchthatpage.com to verify your
email address. We will at the same time thank you for using our services."
but to both the email address I registered and to this one I am used to register
Silly me?

Update re Watchthatpage activity, Martin:
1. Wednesday 5.9.07 14.01: introductory Welcome message
2. Friday 7.9.07 11:19: notification of page change for MMM site (giving home page address)
3. Friday 7.9.07 22.15: ditto
All to they reply address not my nominated Googlemail address, so it looks like you must register through the address that you want to use - although Welcome message went to both addresses
That's it ... so far
Best wishes

Modification to last posting:
Now received message of page change today (8/9/07) at 10:27
Also received at alternate address together with the previous two messages as in my last posting: ie messages of Mayhem page changes coming to both addresses now.

Ah! It works then. Thanks Bob. Is it too much hassle?
-
Looks like I definitely made a cows ear of filling it in as I have had nothing. No point keeping in Watchthatpage, so I'll drop out of the experiment. Sorry to be no help (not unusual :D)
MikeK
PS just tried to cancel my membership of Watchthatpage - looks like that's as complicated as posting on it for untech brains like mine !!
-
I thought I had filled it all in correctly but except for the thank you email have recieved nothing.
Will go back in and have another attempt............

Seems to work for me, Martin. Latest updates are
Saturday 8-9-07 at 22:13
Sunday 8-9-07 at 10:31
I set update times as 08:00 (can't think why I did that!), 10:00 and 21:00 so there's just a short delay. Presumably a daily poll would be the most frequent needed in reality
Setup is interesting: I have a login name (email address) listed as my registered gogglemail address and can login as that or my alias - but get updates to both email addresses. Not really a problem but perhaps other users should be using the email address to which they want updates when they register
Trust all this is helpful
Best wishes

Should anyone else wish to leave Watchthatpage - I eventually gave up trying to find the relevant section on their site and sent them an email. Got a prompt reply this morning from their support dept saying if I give them the email address I used when joining, he would remove me. ( No instructions on how to do it myself, so maybe they don't exist after all)

Still had no notices from this company, it would seem they are not to reliable.........

Thought I would give Martin a rest, signed up to watchit, got two messages which promptly dissapeared :( Sorry Martin....
-
Hi Martin
One more update on Sunday 9/9/7 at 23:31 and none for yesterday
If that's correct, I don't seem to have had any problems. If you plan to advertise this, and save you email hassle, it might be worth pointing out that a) user should register from the email service they plan to register to avoid duplication and b) set polling for updates to a time/frequency to suit them personally e.g. weekly, daily, etc.
Certainly, has been no hassle to get the messages, even at two per day - mind you, I am receiving 40-80 non-spam messages a day anyway!
Haven't tried de-registering, so can't comment on that
Best wishes

Since my last post, received a message re update timed at 05:26 Thursday 13/09/2007
Doesn't really fit with my settings - unless you were prowling the net in the wee small hours!
Best wishes

Seems to be functioning now Martin O0
I registered last week and received the first notification on the 12th and the second today at 18.42.
This last one seems a lot more detailed than the first one - perhaps there were more changes?
Danny
Ps seems a bit pointless for me though - every time I go NEAR a computer, something MAKES me log in to here :o :D :D
(Can be embarrassing when sitting next to someone on the train who's using a laptop) ;D ;D
-
What else is there to do on a train?

Don't you think that perhaps you are making things a little complicated for us simple minded muppets? BY.
-
Thanks for the step by step guide - turns out I filled it in right but nothing happened - going on Danny's experience maybe I didn't wait long enough :-\

Just trying to make my life easier Bryan..... ;)
20 - 30 hours a week working on Mayhem & the Forum is enough for anyone! :D

"20 - 30 hours" Martin - I spend that time viewing (OK, I might view as a guest as well - it eases my concience when I'm at work) ;D ;D
