Title: ELECTRONICS WIZARDS..HELP!!!
Post by: Neil on November 30, 2017, 09:31:35 pm

I have been told that there are very small motors in a mobile phone that can be used as a radar motor.........but to a halfwit like me I haven't a clue as to what I am looking for.

can any one point me to what I am looking for in this old knackered Samsung galaxy s4 I think...apparently they drive the buzzer/vibrater.

thanks.

This is a collection from various phones - you can clearly see the ones that are motor based with an offset weight

Vibrate motors from left to right: Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone 4S, Sony Xperia Z, iPhone 5 (very similar size to the iPhone 4's), HTC One X, iPhone 3GS

Hit eBay and type "iphone vibrator motor"  eg. https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/322679228648?chn=ps&adgroupid=51041005567&rlsatarget=pla-381492104316&abcId=1128946&adtype=pla&merchantid=107449326&poi=&googleloc=9046187&device=c&campaignid=856858697&crdt=0

I suppose all the phones are these............can I be brave and ask is it an electro magnetic motor....................

was hoping it would have a little shaft on it to fit to a radar..........bahh humbug...........foiled again. >>:-(

before posting just caught your line up and have an old totally broken iPhone 4 that I had a while ago..............that would do the trick I think if the weight was removed..........NOW.....where's me 'ammer

thank you so much for the information.

cheers, neil.

Forget it Neil.......you would need a double Degree in Micro Electronics and the clean room with multi million $ computer controlled robotic disassembly equipment just to get one opened without  <*< it................... and then removing the offset rotating mass....{-) {-) {-)..... Derek

Neil,

I think the actual issue may be slowing down the Mega RPM.

Whilst these need other circuitry to run the phases - micro steppers would work a treat

Got a spare DVD or CD or old fashioned hard drive you can attack with the hammer..

don't need such a degree when you have a deft hand, a pin hammer and plenty of whallop ....derek

just taken an old iPhone apart with some asda best micro screw drivers.........sadly didn't find the motor in the one I took apart........but Stan has messaged me and am going to ring him at an earlier time tomorrow.....
at least I have a few dozen tiny screws that will come in handy for detailing a model some where along the line lol.
that link you sent to me about those for sale on ebay is the thing, C-3PO...and i'll have a word with stan tomorrow before I make up my mind as to what to do.
cheers all................off for a bath now. goodnight all.

Hi Neil,

You could try one of these micro DC geared motors... the 8mm dia. one with 136:1 gearbox gives an output speed of 50rpm.

The only thing you would need to sort out is getting the 3v DC supply... this could be either a suitable voltage regulator from your main supply (I assume this is either 6v or 12v) or, for simplicity, you could use a pair of AA or even AAA size batteries... the motors only need 50ma of current.

Hope this helps.

Alex.

NHP
Try here https://www.componentshop.co.uk/motors/dc-geared-motors.html (https://www.componentshop.co.uk/motors/dc-geared-motors.html)
They also sell voltage reducers https://www.componentshop.co.uk/voltage-reducer.html (https://www.componentshop.co.uk/voltage-reducer.html)
No need to make a problem out of it.

HI all just a picture showing the voltage regulator from component shop. I have used these in two of my models just wire in to an electronic switch and Bobs yer uncle. Second picture showing the radar drive unit I have used in two of my models. The unit goes from  horizontal to vertical drive. The outlet voltage on regulator set at around 2.2 volts this can set up or down to increase or decrease the speed of the radar.
