Bonjour,I could not wait to share with you my new Kingdon boiler : https://youtu.be/5heUAKoZEW0 (https://youtu.be/5heUAKoZEW0)
And a few pictures here with its future launch : https://goo.gl/photos/tNdsxUQ7eQRApcH89 (https://goo.gl/photos/tNdsxUQ7eQRApcH89)
What I appreciate with Nigel is that he is able to adapt his products to our customer specific requirements, as example for me, having French accessories, adding additional 6 x 0,75 mm bushed/ferrules with no extra charge.

Nigel is a top man :-))
-
Bonjour Raphael,
The boiler looks splendid! I am not familiar with Kingdom Boilers. What is their configuration, their features/benefits? Perhaps you or Nigel could enlighten me.
-
Nigel is a top man :-))
He sure is and he also fully supports his products should you have any questions or need modifications. That new boiler is an absolute beauty. I'm looking forward to seeing this in your boat Raphael :-)

Bonjour Ian,
I do not know what a real Kingdon boiler is. I have choosen the Nigels's one because it is original, nice looking, very well built and enhanced with my additional requirements.
I have lots of boats and had no vertical boiler yet, my benefit is to start this type of collection with a good choice to my opinion.
Besides this, large burner, 16 water tubes, it should be efficient, more than the little one currently in my launch eLiv@
The only possible concern will be the behaviour of the boat with a weight high in the hull.
-
Hello. The Kingdon first saw service in 1881 to power small high speed launches (80 hp). The benefit it offers is that it has a greater volume in the 'top hat' for steam, and that once clad they look very nice.
-
In full size the boiler has water tubes running vertically and the model boiler can also be made like this, but it would add great expense and so cross tubes are used instead. The boiler has been independently put through its paces by Roy Burton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ApRIkCOwuQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJkIonTj5ZE and no....I dont pay Roy to test my boilers. Thanks, Nigel.
-
Didn't understand a word but easy to tell he is tre jolly :-) fabulous !
-
Hi all,
Thanks for the information, now have better understanding of Kingdon's Boiler configuration & take on board Nigel's point re cross tubes as instead of vertical ones.
Plus, I am now finding Google search is now bring up relevant information now that I am using "Kingdon" & not Kingdom!
-
Ian...here are a few previous links to Kingdon boilers.....Roy Burtons video is particularly interesting............Derek

Bernard,
In all respects, the boats & steam plants are superb!

:-) Hello ;
e question about this beautiful boiler; what is the purpose of this big washer at the base of the chimney? For me the useless matter has heated up and too much weight in the highs
-
The big washer at the top of the boiler looks like it is a smoke collector where the vertical tubes come up.
This link shows a small full size one, from it I think the model ones are too small, but most I think use cross tubes in the single flue.

and photo of a old one

Bonjour Bernhard,
I like very much your boat collection and, as subscriber, I do not miss your videos ok2
I know that Martin (I have met him during our last Atlantica Steam event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN4Y3gLdp-U (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN4Y3gLdp-U) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf5BnrqWWwU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf5BnrqWWwU) ) makes this boiler, but the price is quite different I fear.
-
Bonjour,
The kingdon boiler (2,8 kilos) replaces without any problem the previous hrizontal one (2,4 kilos) in my launch eLiv@ :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZQgdepAf84
And I just decorate the top of the burner for the look, not for the insulation efficiency ok2
-
Bonjour,
Here it is, installed in my launch : https://youtu.be/0cyZ_F29vd4
A few details to be solved and she is ready to navigate... As soon as the weather allow it.
-
Bonjour,
Besides my Kingdon, Nigel has realized a powerful horizontal boiler for my friend Didier who needs one for his Stuart D10 with water feed pump : https://youtu.be/nTuHb5umxwE
-
Bonjour,
Despite a cold and windy weather, I have been able to navigate with my steam launch eLiv@ and her new Pendlesteam Kigdon boiler :-))
https://youtu.be/93vPCIyLw0k (https://youtu.be/93vPCIyLw0k)
-
Beautiful model but 3 cyl appears to be a bit of a challenge for the boiler ,just my thoughts
Cheers
John
-
Bonjour John,
You are right, even if the windy 10°C did not help it. Never mind, most of my boats are too fast, and in this launch, passengers will not be spraid ok2
The same launch with its previous boiler at 30 PSI : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIbGjiD36xU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIbGjiD36xU)
-
Hi Raphael that is a much better combination .perhaps a more aggressive burner and a feed pump would improve things
Cheers
John
-
Bonjour John,
I have several other projects in progress, so I will make another test when the weather is warmer before looking for alternatives to enhance my launch. About a feed pump, even if I have several ones, I do not like them and much prefer the coupled mechanical ones like this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycgoXV3IoV4&t=48s
