Post by: Andjo on March 26, 2018, 05:26:04 pm
Hi all,

This might be interesting to you.
On our news channel yesterday they showed how to check if your e-mail address has been sold to ??????

To check this go to the web site "https://haveibeenpawned.com"  and you can check this.

By the way, mine are all ok.

Regards Andre

I can't access the website site which in itself sounds the alarm bells!!!

How do they know if your email address has been sold - sounds very phishy to me.....

Great way to harvest people's email addresses - I would stay well clear...

And if it's not? - Looks like several media publications state it's a source to check if your email address had been abused - I'll give this one a miss

It seems to be a legitimate site but I'm not sure if it helps much. I am well aware that my email addresses get sold/passed on due to the spam I get. Same with my mobile phone number.

You frequently have to give either or both when buying stuff or making travel arrangements for example. And even if the organisation itself is above board and doesn't pass your information on there is nothing to stop one of their employees harvesting the data and selling it. It's just one step down from having your financial details passed on when you buy something using a card.

I use a secondary email address when buying online which helps stop my main one getting clogged up with spam.
